The signposted Kloosterrondwandeling Boekel en Handel starts at Huize Padua and passes the Museum De Kluis. This makes it easy to combine Boekel’s cultural heritage with a walk; cycling routes, the Peel landscape and outdoor activities offer additional options for your stay. If you’re looking for a hotel in Boekel, these experiences offer a starting point for deciding what you’d like your trip to focus on.

Cycling routes with different themes

In its 2025–2035 leisure programme, the Municipality of Boekel ranks walking and cycling among by far the most popular leisure activities in the municipality. The cycling routes bring different themes to life: the 30-kilometre Monumentenroute Boekel & Venhorst passes several monuments in Boekel and offers cyclists natural beauty in the Peel. Small shelters with picnic benches stand at several points along the route.

The Ontginningsroute Boekel & Venhorst showcases the results of large-scale land reclamation in the Peel in Boekel and Venhorst in the early 20th century. It is 37 kilometres long and takes about three hours by bike. It starts and ends at Natuurpark De Perekker; the entire route is signposted with signs reading “Ontginningsroute”. The two cycling routes are 30 and 37 kilometres long, respectively; an approximate cycling time is also provided for the Ontginningsroute.

Peel landscape and nature

Voskuilenheuvel is a small remnant of the Peel plain, which was once uncultivated. A nature walk there takes you through woodland and heathland and past a wet area with hollows. Examples of plants and animals found at Voskuilenheuvel include heath clubmoss, rushes, the red-belted bracket and the tree pipit.

Natuurpark De Perekker lies on the edge of the Peel. The effects of the Peelrandbreuk fault are visible at the surface there. The visitor centre provides information about natural phenomena related to this geological feature. Together with the route about land reclamation in the Peel, the park offers another way to explore the landscape: through its nature and geology, and through its history.

Walking and cultural heritage

The signposted Kloosterrondwandeling Boekel en Handel is 6.7 kilometres long and takes about an hour and a half. It starts at Huize Padua and passes, among other places, the Museum De Kluis. The museum is housed in the oldest building on Levendig Landgoed Huize Padua, which is also called De Kluis. A timeline guides visitors through history in words and images. The route thus combines a clearly defined walk with a cultural stop, without requiring a long cycling trip.
