Nature and Tree Diversity

Bomenbos Leudal is a newly planted woodland area of about 6,000 m². This educational and informative natural area is home to 90 different tree species. It offers a distinct focus on nature and learning, with woodland and tree diversity at its heart. Leudalmuseum offers a different perspective on the region: its long history.

Hiking Trails and Activities

Several activities of varying lengths and formats start at Bezoekerscentrum Leudal in Haelen. The Elisabethpad is just under one kilometre long, designed especially for children and includes a range of natural play features. It is considerably shorter than the approximately 4.5 km “Speurtocht door het Leudal”, an educational trail. The route passes through nature and cultural sites; you can pick up a free route leaflet at the visitor centre.

There is also the “De geheime sleutels van het Leudal” smartphone treasure hunt for children aged about 6 to 12. It starts at Bezoekerscentrum Leudal and is also suitable for families. You can choose between a short hiking trail designed especially for children, a smartphone treasure hunt and a longer themed route. The approximate lengths provide a direct indication of how much ground each route covers.

Three other routes for longer hikes differ in both distance and starting point. The Bruggenroute is 9.7 km long and starts at the car park at Bezoekerscentrum Leudal, Roggelseweg 58, in Haelen. The 12.1 km Bekenroute starts at Raadhuisplein/Roggelseweg. Knopenlopen Haelen is a 13 km hiking route that explores Haelen’s varied natural landscapes and rich history, passing the Monument van Verdraagzaamheid. By distance, the Bruggenroute is the shortest of the three, while Knopenlopen Haelen is the longest.

For walks along unpaved trails through woodland and heathland, Bezoekerscentrum Leudal lends all-terrain wheelchairs. If you would like to make use of this option, check the current rental arrangements in advance.

Discover Cultural History

Leudalmuseum in Haelen shows how people in Leudal lived more than 10,000 years before the start of our era. A guided tour of Kasteel Aldenghoor offers a different cultural perspective. Tours are available for groups of 6 to 16 people and usually last 1.5 to 2 hours. As arrangements may change, it is best to check the current options in advance.
