Valledoria combines a coast of dunes and sandy beaches with the landscape around the Coghinas. Marina di Valledoria offers seven kilometres of soft, golden sand. Dunes with sea lilies shape the coast; inland lies a lagoon formed by a river mouth. In Valledoria, the beach and river landscape stand side by side as distinct aspects of the destination.

Beaches and Landscapes in Valledoria

Between river, dunes and sea, Valledoria's Imbarcadero is located at the mouth of the Coghinas. The individual beaches also each have their own distinctive landscapes. Baia Verde is close to the mouth of the Rio Cugiani and is surrounded by eucalyptus trees, junipers and mimosas. Prima Guardia is a sandy beach with Mediterranean scrub, located close to the built-up area.

L'Alta Bhanda borders the mouth of the Coghinas and the surrounding SIC area. The beach can be reached by boat from the Imbarcadero.

San Pietro a Mare offers fine golden sand, bathing facilities, bars and restaurants. There are also areas for beach volleyball and beach soccer. A nearby car park makes the beach accessible to families and people with reduced mobility. Individual services may vary by season.

On the Coghinas: Kayaking and Birdwatching

River trips and peaceful activities such as kayaking and birdwatching depart from the Imbarcadero. The Coghinas is more than 12 kilometres long, calm and shallow, making it suitable for kayaking. Activities on the river therefore focus both on getting out on the water and observing nature.

Near the Coghinas, protected species in the SIC area can be observed among the reeds and sand dunes. Specialised birdwatching activities with qualified guides are offered at the Coghinas access point. Check their seasonal availability before your trip if you plan to take part in an observation activity.

Plan Beach Days and Activities

All of Valledoria's beaches can be reached on foot or by bicycle via combined pedestrian and cycling paths; a shuttle bus also provides access to the beaches. When planning a beach day, you can choose from these access options. Surfing and windsurfing are a particular focus at Maragnani Beach, while San Pietro a Mare has areas for beach volleyball and beach soccer.

The hills and small mountains around the Valledoria valley are also possible destinations for activities. They are suitable for walks and hikes of low, moderate and high difficulty. These three difficulty levels can help you take the demands of a hike into account when planning your day.

The Trade History of the River Mouth

The mouth of the Coghinas served as a harbour for trade with the rest of Sardinia, as well as for imports and exports throughout the Mediterranean. Alongside the river's significance for the landscape, it also has a history of trade that extended beyond Sardinia.
