Villa Gorizia
Accommodation in Villa Gorizia
Villa Gorizia is one of the settlements in the Sassari environmental area and lies on the corridor towards Porto Torres. The area is characterised by extensive olive groves and a scattered settlement pattern. The combination of agriculture and loosely clustered settlements describes the place’s spatial character.
Olive growing describes how the land is used, while the scattered settlement pattern describes how settlements are distributed across the area. The two details relate to different aspects of the landscape and complement each other.

Archaeological heritage near Sassari
The Monte d’Accoddi sanctuary is outside the built-up area of Villa Gorizia, near Sassari. The prehistoric complex includes an altar-like structure in the shape of a truncated pyramid, remains of huts and several artefacts whose function was probably symbolic or ritual. The first altar at Monte d’Accoddi was built around 3000 BC: a square terrace whose surface was plastered and painted with red ochre. It is therefore known as “Tempio Rosso”, meaning “Red Temple”.
The terms refer to different features: the truncated pyramid describes the shape of an altar-like structure, while “Tempio Rosso” refers to the terrace’s red ochre. This makes it possible to consider the structure’s form and its name separately.
