Uggiate-Trevano can be explored through its waterways, sacred buildings and historic connections. The following points of interest offer a practical guide to help you shape your stay around a theme.

Waterways and Landscape

The source springs of the Torrente Lura are on Somazzo Hill, in the municipalities of Uggiate Trevano, Bizzarone and Ronago. In the forests of Somazzo, the Lura forms from scattered springs; its source is also in the moraine hills of the upper Olgiatese, in the municipality of Uggiate Trevano. The moraine hills describe the terrain at the source, while in its initial stretch the Lura drains wetlands, wet meadows and ditches in the Olgiatese. The landscape therefore extends from springs in the forest to wet areas and ditches. The Torrente Faloppia, by contrast, rises between the municipalities of Uggiate Trevano and Faloppio. The descriptions of their sources thus differ: the Lura is associated with springs, forest and terrain, while the Faloppia rises in the area between two municipalities.

Church Art and Cultural Heritage

The parish church of Saints Peter and Paul in Uggiate Trevano dates from the 16th century. Its single-nave interior was decorated with frescoes by Carlo Innocenzo Carloni in 1737. “Single-nave” describes the interior layout, with one main nave; the frescoes give a specific date for the artistic decoration. The construction period, layout and painted decoration are distinct features of this church. Villa Natta in Romazzana also dates from the 16th century and is privately owned. San Giuseppe ai Morti di Somazzo in Uggiate is a diocesan shrine. These points of interest range from church architecture and frescoes to a villa and a shrine with a religious designation.

Historic Routes and Water Use

The medieval Strada Cavallina-Luganese connected the Milan area with Lugano via the Mendrisiotto. A section of this historic road followed the Torrente Lura from Uggiate, where the stream rises, towards Saronno. The route can thus be viewed on two scales: as a connection between wider regions and through a specific stretch along the Lura. The Torrente Faloppia represents a different historic relationship with water. In the past, it powered numerous mills in the valley named after them, Val Mulini. While the road represents historic connections between regions, Val Mulini links the stream with the valley’s former use of water to power mills.
