At the South Beach, water sports and ball games take center stage; the museum and bell tower offer insights into different aspects of the town’s history. There are also activities related to the island of Föhr as a whole. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between attractions in Wyk and island-wide activities.

Promenade, South Beach and accessible routes

Wyk auf Föhr has a three-kilometre-long, fully accessible promenade with views of the Halligen and the Wadden Sea. At Wyk’s South Beach, there are two water sports schools as well as facilities for beach volleyball and beach soccer. This makes it possible to treat a stay along the promenade and sporting activities on the beach as separate priorities.

Wheelchair-accessible routes to the promenade are available at beach sections 5–6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17–18, 23–24 and 26. If accessibility information is important for your planning, check the details again before you travel. On Föhr, AQUAFÖHR also provides wheelchair users with access to the beach promenade via a 40-metre ramp with a seven per cent gradient. The complex combines a seawater wave pool with sauna, fitness, health, thalassotherapy and wellness facilities; check operating and access details before visiting.

Frisian history and Wyk landmarks

The Dr. Carl Häberlin Frisian Museum in the centre of Wyk offers insights into Frisian history and culture. Its collection is displayed in ten rooms covering around 600 square metres and also includes a section on whaling and seafaring. The museum opened in 1908. The oldest house on Föhr stands on the grounds: it was built in 1617 and moved here from Alkersum in 1927. The open-air complex also includes a post mill from Hallig Langeneß.

Another point of reference for the town’s history is the bell tower. The first bell tower in Wyk was built in 1701 and at the time signalled church services, fires and storm surges. The museum, historic buildings and tower thus offer different starting points for anyone interested in the town’s cultural history.

The Wadden Sea and activities from the National Park House

The National Park House in Wyk is an information and visitor centre for the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site and Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park. Guided nature walks across the tidal flats, detective rallies and evening beach walks are among the activities starting there. The activities vary by theme and time of day: nature walks on the tidal flats, a puzzle-based rally or an evening stroll along the beach. Programmes and dates may change seasonally; check what is currently on offer in advance.

Föhr as an island region

Föhr can only be reached by ship or by air. The W.D.R. catamaran, chartered to partner Adler-Schiffe, provides a fast passenger connection between Föhr, Amrum and Dagebüll. Check the timetable before finalising your outward or onward journey. This connection serves the island region and is not necessarily a route to a specific accommodation in Wyk.

The cycling network is also an island-wide offering: Föhr has more than 200 kilometres of signposted cycle paths and five marked themed routes. This lets you distinguish between Wyk’s promenade and longer rides on routes across the island, without treating the respective offerings as equivalent.
