Discover Borgsum: Natural Beach and Lembecksburg
Accommodation in Borgsum
When choosing a place to stay on Föhr, Borgsum combines coastal nature with historical traces and leisure activities. A natural beach lies just south of the village; in the village, there are several restaurants and cafés as well as farm shops. The offerings of individual businesses and seasonal attractions may vary; check the latest information before planning specific visits.
Ring Wall and Traces of Former Houses
Lembecksburg, also known as Borgsumburg, lies about one kilometre north of Borgsum. It rises on a Geest hill surrounded by marshland. The ring wall is an archaeological monument dating from the 9th or 10th century. The structure is almost eight metres high, with an inner diameter of just under 100 metres. The grounds can also be used for picnics.
Excavations inside the ring wall uncovered the remains of several well-preserved houses with walls made of turf. The house remains date from the 8th to the 11th century. This means the settlement traces span a broader period than the wall structure’s dating to the 9th or 10th century. Those interested in the history of the village can connect the dimensions of the ring wall with the archaeological traces inside Lembecksburg.
Maze, Adventure Golf and Other Activities
A seasonal attraction is the Föhr corn maze in Borgsum: the route through thousands of corn plants is about 3.5 kilometres long. Adventure Golf in Borgsum offers 18 holes with a total course length of 350 metres. These figures describe different measurements: a route through the maze and the total length of the golf course. The Adventure Golf course has a viewing point overlooking Lembecksburg and the corn maze; each hole includes a short description of local history.
The Adventure Golf & Corn Maze site also has swings, a trampoline, table tennis and table football, slides, and a large sandy area. You can enjoy cakes and tarts from the Borgsum country bakery on site. Alongside the main attractions, the same site offers further leisure activities and a place to stop for refreshments.
Mill and Bowling in Borgsum
Borgsum Mill is privately owned and was built as a new structure in 1992. It is visible from far away. Built in 1992, it offers a more recent landmark than Lembecksburg. Another activity in the village is offered by the Bi Jaine Bowling Centre, which has two lanes.
