Discover Taucha: Castle, art and trails
Accommodation in Taucha
Taucha offers several different starting points for planning a trip: a historic complex of buildings, an art project featuring viewing frames, and trails through river meadows, grasslands and woodland. When choosing a destination, you can therefore first decide whether culture and local history or trails and landscapes should be the focus of your stay.
Schlossberg: A complex of buildings with changing uses
Taucha Manor Castle preserves a historic complex of buildings around Schlossberg. Within this complex, the Kulturscheune tells the story of different uses over several centuries. In the 16th century, it served as a court; from 1768 to 1774, it was temporarily used as a church. These dates mark two clearly distinct chapters: an earlier judicial function and a later, temporary religious use. The historical context can thus be seen not only in the complex of buildings but also in the changes in the Kulturscheune.
Beau View and the view of Taucha
Beau View offers a different way of looking at the town. Completed in 2020, the art project uses large, freestanding steel frames to draw attention to views of Taucha’s townscape and landscapes. The frames give these views a specific focus, while the town and landscape provide a range of subjects. The Beau View trail passes through Seegeritz, Merkwitz, Dewitz and Sehlis; one frame stands at the Großer Schöppenteich. The project is therefore associated with several named places and is not limited to a single stop.
Another clear and measurable landmark is the observation tower: it is 22 metres high, and you have to climb 99 steps to see the surrounding area. If you plan to visit the tower, the number of steps gives you a concrete idea of the climb involved.
On foot and by bike
The Parthe hiking trail follows the course of the Parthe through green river meadows, grasslands and woodland. The route offers opportunities to observe nature on foot or by bike. The river and the changing landscapes characterise the trail. A different focus is provided by the nature trail in Staditzwald near Taucha: it follows the Pönitzer Bach through species-rich riparian woodland and is equipped with information boards. The boards add an explanatory element to the trail, while the Parthe hiking trail is characterised above all by the landscape along the Parthe.
The Höhenweg Lübschütz branches off from the Parthe hiking trail at Parthenbrücke on Wurzner Straße in Taucha. It is about 6.8 kilometres long and crosses open fields with sweeping views across the Leipzig region. The landscapes described therefore differ: the Parthe hiking trail features meadows, grasslands and woodland, while the Höhenweg takes in open fields and views across the region.
A cycling route through Taucha also follows the Parthe, starting from Borsdorf. In Taucha, it passes through the town park and by the observation tower and town centre. It continues towards Leipzig via Graßdorf and Seegeritz. For your specific ride, it is advisable to check the current trail conditions.
A historical look at the market
The town’s history also includes a tradition of food trading: Borna onions from the Borna area were a sought-after market product in Taucha. This adds a glimpse of historic market connections to the architectural and artistic history.
