Cycling Routes and the Countryside Around Cavertitz

The municipality has a dense, well-signposted network of cycling and hiking trails. There are also bridleways in the heathland and forests. This gives you options for experiencing the landscape in different ways: on foot, by bike, or along designated bridleways. The Dahleaue around Cavertitz is characterised by wide meadows and a high proportion of wooded areas.

Two cycling connections are specifically named: Zeuckritz has a connection to the Leipzig–Elbe Cycling Network within the municipality. Schirmenitz is also connected to the Leipzig–Elbe Cycle Route. These connections may be useful when choosing a cycling stage. Check the route before setting off when planning your trip.

Churches, Manor Complex, and Historic Mill

The church in Cavertitz is a Romanesque fortified church dating from the 12th century. The church in Schirmenitz also dates from the 12th century. A later event is associated with the rectory in Schirmenitz: during the Battle of MĂĽhlberg in 1547, Emperor Charles V and his brother Ferdinand were quartered there. Cavertitz itself was first documented in 1240.

The church in Olganitz combines Romanesque, Baroque, Neoclassical, and Historicist elements. Notable details include a baptismal font and carved figures. Its different styles make it a destination in its own right for anyone interested in the architectural history of the municipality’s churches.

GestĂĽt Sachsen is a manor complex dating from the 13th century. The complex also includes a historic carriage house and a riding stable, which can be visited by prior arrangement. The Zeuckritz post mill dates from 1865 and was extensively restored in 1996. A visit to the mill must be arranged in advance with the municipality of Cavertitz.

In Lampertswalde, there is a former manor house dating from the late 14th century, with a well-maintained park, rare botanical features, a restored gardener’s house, and a castle café. Another excursion destination is a wildlife park in Schöna, near the entrance to the Dahlener Heide. The municipality therefore offers a range of options, including historic estates, churches, and a countryside destination.

Visiting Conditions and Getting There

Two historic destinations have different visiting conditions: visits to the Zeuckritz post mill must be arranged in advance with the municipality of Cavertitz; the carriage house and riding stable at GestĂĽt Sachsen can be visited by prior arrangement. Confirm these conditions before your visit so you can take the arrangements into account when planning.
