Stecklenberg lies on the northern edge of the Harz, close to Quedlinburg and Thale. Sweet cherries grow predominantly on the mountain slopes around Stecklenberg; sour cherries thrive on less suitable soils. When choosing your destination, you can take this local agricultural feature into account alongside hiking trails and nearby attractions.

Hiking around Stecklenberg

The long-distance hiking trail “Route of German Emperors and Kings” passes through Stecklenberg. Well-marked hiking trails lead from Stecklenberg to numerous sights in the surrounding area. For planning your excursions, this means that the long-distance trail passes through the village, while the marked trails lead to nearby destinations. Check the current conditions for each route before setting out, as they can change.

Springs in the surrounding area

The calcium chloride spring lies in Röhrengrund, near Stecklenberg. A stone bearing the inscription “Radium Spring” still stands today to the left of the spring outlet on the slope. The actual source of the “Calcium Spring” lies a good 200 m above the park-like grounds, beneath a large beech tree. Röhrengrund, the spring outlet and the beech tree provide different points of reference for describing this landscape. If you would also like to consider natural features when planning your trip, you can make this spring area a focus in its own right.

Lauenburg and views of the landscape

In the vicinity of Stecklenberg, parts of the ruins of Lauenburg can be visited on a circular walk, including the keep of the outer bailey. Above Stecklenberg, there are views of the wooded surroundings. The ruins and the landscape views offer different points of interest: one focuses on a historic structure, the other on the forested surroundings.
