Discover Neinstedt: Marienhof and nearby trails
Accommodation in Neinstedt
Get to know Neinstedt through its specific attractions: the historic Marienhof is on the edge of town, right on the banks of the Bode. The Magdeburg–Thale railway line is also useful to know when planning a stay. The surrounding area also has a circular hike whose route description covers several named rock formations and trail sections.
Marienhof: farm, café and juice pressing
Marienhof is a historic farm in Neinstedt. Its café serves breakfast, a light lunch menu, coffee and homemade cakes. As menus and services may change, check in advance for the latest offerings if needed.
A special option for visitors: you can bring your own fruit to Marienhof and have it pressed there into your own juice. This service is available seasonally; ask the operator about current availability. This gives your visit a specific purpose, rather than experiencing the farm only as a historic site.
Marienhof also has an adventure playground with a small petting zoo. In suitable weather, the playground is open for play during café opening hours. Check the current café hours when planning your visit, as these also determine when the playground is open for play.
Circular hike on the Teufelsmauerstieg
The circular hike on the Teufelsmauerstieg begins at the Teufelsmauer car park by the Bode bridge between Weddersleben and Neinstedt, in the area surrounding the destination. After a short climb, the trail reaches the Teufelsmauer and Königsstein. It then descends a wooden staircase; from there, the loop passes the Mittelsteine. This sequence of ascent, descent and striking rock formations gives the route its specific course.
The loop reaches the paved Thalenser Chaussee. After a few metres, a gentle climb branches off to the Papensteine. From there, the path follows the rocks to a paved farm track. The signposting to Thale and Neinstedt is marked Kaiserkrone. The return to the car park follows a hiking trail along the Bode, signposted to Neinstedt and Weddersleben. Check current trail conditions before setting out; no walking time is given here for this route.
Getting here by train
Neinstedt is on the Magdeburg–Thale railway line and is also easy to reach for travellers without a car. When planning, check the connection for your specific travel date, so be sure to consult the current timetable before departure.
More cultural and hiking highlights in the wider destination of Thale
The wider destination of Thale offers further points of interest for culture enthusiasts. Wendhusen Monastery was founded in Wendhusen in 825; the site is now in Thale’s old town. The Thalenser Mythenweg is a themed walking trail from the exit of the Bode Gorge to the old town and features thirteen sculptures by various artists. A historic site and an artistically designed walking trail offer options for different interests.
The Teufelsmauer themed hiking trail is also part of the wider destination of Thale: it runs through Thale and passes all the striking rock formations of the Teufelsmauer. Thale is also a starting point for hikes into the Bode Gorge and the starting point of the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg. These routes complement the specific circular hike near Neinstedt with further hiking destinations in the wider area, but the route descriptions are not interchangeable.
For open-air culture, visit the Harzer Bergtheater on the Hexentanzplatz. Its programme features mystical stories, fairy tales, operettas, musicals, plays and concerts, and changes seasonally. The cableways also offer different destinations: take the chairlift to the Rosstrappe or the gondola lift to the Hexentanzplatz. Timetables vary by season and should be checked before travelling. The DDR Museum Thale is dedicated to domestic and everyday life in the GDR.
