Oelde: Brewery, History and Nature
Accommodation in Oelde
Oelde can be explored through a range of interests: at Pott’s glass brewery experience, the brewing process takes centre stage; a city tour focuses on history and sights; and in Oelde’s Stromberg district, historic sites and circular walking trails lead to other topics. This lets you plan your stay according to your interests—with insights into production, local history or nature. If you’re looking for a hotel in Oelde, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip.
Brewery and Watermill
Pott’s glass brewery experience is located on the outskirts of Oelde. Through large windows and information panels, you can follow the brewing process from maturation to bottling. During operating hours, you can watch the brewers at work without booking in advance; tours of all areas are also available. Watching and taking a tour offer different perspectives: the first gives you a glimpse of the brewing process as it happens, while a tour takes you through every area. The Brunnenkino adds a short film about Pott’s and its origins, shown on a large, circular screen. The brewery experience thus ranges from observing individual production steps to watching a film about the brewery’s origins.
The historic watermill, dating from 1726, offers a different perspective. In its historic section, you can step into the role of a miller. There are also interactive and digital themed areas, ranging from agriculture to food detectives. The miller experience and the themed areas offer different focuses: one centres on the old mill, while the other covers topics from agriculture to learning about food.
Discover Historic Sites and History
The kulTOUR Park starts at the Vier-Jahreszeiten-Park, Konrad-Adenauer-Allee 20 in Oelde. You can visit the sites in any order, choosing the sequence according to your interests. This differs from a tour with a fixed thematic framework: you decide which site to visit first.
On a city tour of Oelde, you’ll learn interesting facts about the town’s history and sights beneath the distinctive tower of St. Johannes. In Stromberg, the historic mile offers a different focus. It leads to the Alte Vikarie, St. Georg’s Chapel, a former tripoint, Münsterland’s traditional burghers’ houses and the hilltop castle. You can choose between a tour with explanations of the town’s history and a series of specifically named historic sites.
Circular Trails and Events in Stromberg
Well-maintained circular hiking trails through the Gaßbachtal lead to the Wennhage, Bergeler Wald and Limberger Forst nature reserves. These nature trails complement Stromberg’s historic sites with another way to shape your stay. The traditional Stromberg soapbox race is also held in the Gaßbachtal, at the outdoor pool. It has been held there annually since 2007; the event dates may vary. If the race is the reason for your trip, check the date when planning.
The different activities have different conditions for planning your schedule: watching the brewery in operation depends on its operating hours, while you can visit the kulTOUR Park sites in any order. The soapbox race dates, meanwhile, are not always the same. These differences can help you choose a focus and plan your visit around an annual event.
