Beckum can be explored through a variety of themes: the Cement Route combines industrial heritage and landscapes, Höxberg offers a circular hiking trail and a historic structure, and the Pütt Days are a highlight of the events calendar. If you’re looking for accommodation in Beckum, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your stay.

Cycling through the cement district

The 27-kilometre Beckum Cement Route is a scenic cycling circuit through the Beckum cement district. It passes abandoned industrial heritage sites and landscape oases. Along the way, it offers insights into past and present industrial cement production. This makes the route not only a circuit through the district, but also a way to explore Beckum’s industrial history and its present-day industry. If you’re interested in the development of cement production, this route offers a specific theme to explore; the landscape oases are also part of the circuit’s character.

Hiking and history at Höxberg

The 14-kilometre Höxberg Panorama Circular Trail takes in Beckum’s natural and cultural landscape as well as the city’s history. You can hike the entire circular trail or choose one of its two sections, each of which can be hiked on its own: the “Höxberg Adventure Trail” is about 8 kilometres long, and the “Excursion to the Megalithic Tomb” is about 6 kilometres. If you’d like to choose one of the sections, there are two options with different names; the lengths are approximate. The trail is suitable for families but is not accessible.

The Soestwarte is also located on Höxberg. Its 23.30-metre-high tower is one of the last remnants of the medieval city fortifications and defensive structures, and is one of Beckum’s landmarks. At Höxberg, a trail connecting nature and culture meets a striking structure from the city’s history.

An annual event: the Pütt Days

The Pütt Days take place every year as a city festival throughout Beckum’s city centre on the weekend of the first Sunday in September. The festival features a stage, market stalls, activities and food and drink. If you’d like to combine your trip with the city festival, check the dates and programme for the current edition in advance.

Explore Beckum independently

The geolocation-based “Beckum AR City Tour” takes visitors to the city’s sights with the virtual mascot “Kater Murr” and lets them explore Beckum at their own pace. This self-guided format differs from a tour where a group follows a set itinerary together. If you’d like to take the city tour, check in advance whether it is currently available.

Water skiing at Tuttenbrock recreation lake

The “TwinCable Beckum” water-ski cable system has been operating at Tuttenbrock recreation lake since July 2013. It is suitable for beginners and experts. As operator and facility details may change, check current operations and access before your trip.
