Neubeckum: Outdoor Pool, Nature and Trails
Accommodation in Neubeckum
When looking for a hotel in Neubeckum, different travel interests may influence your choice: an outdoor pool, cycling route, landscape, walking trails or local history each offer a different focus. The wider Beckum destination also offers additional cultural and outdoor activities.
Outdoor Pool and Cycling Route
Neubeckum outdoor pool offers a water area of 1,200 square metres. The swimming pool has six lanes and diving towers, while the non-swimmers’ pool has two slides. There is also a paddling pool, a playground and facilities for ball games. Alongside its swimming pools, the outdoor pool therefore offers a range of activities around the grounds.
The Zementroute Beckum is a local cycling route that is 27 kilometres long. It connects the districts of Beckum, Neubeckum, Roland and Vellern. Its length and the districts it links are two concrete points of reference if you are considering cycling as part of your travel plans.
Landscape and Walking Trails
The Halbtrockenrasen sĂĽdlich Neubeckum nature reserve (WAF-039) covers around eight hectares of gently undulating land at a former limestone quarry. The open areas of semi-dry grassland are complemented by various stages of ecological succession, or different stages in the development of scrub, young woodland and forest. The protected area therefore includes both open grassland and several forms of woodland and forest development.
Paved paths invite you to take a walk along the wooded Hellbach and on the Harberg. If you would like to include a walk in your travel plans, these provide two named areas to explore: the Hellbach and the Harberg.
Festival and Architectural History
The Neubeckum Sunflower Festival is a family-friendly street festival for all ages and has been held since 2005. The Protestant Christuskirche in the Neubeckum district was built in the Neo-Gothic style between 1899 and 1900. Neo-Gothic draws on Gothic forms in its design, while the construction dates place the church’s history in context. The festival and the church represent two different cultural themes: an event and a building with a clearly stated period of construction.
More Things to Do in the Wider Beckum Destination
In the wider Beckum destination, the Zementroute is a scenic cycling loop through the Beckum cement district. It offers insights into both past and present industrial cement production and passes abandoned industrial heritage sites as well as landscape oases. The route thus complements the local description of the connected districts with themes of industrial heritage and landscape.
The Pütt-Tage takes place every year over the weekend of the first Sunday in September as a city festival throughout Beckum’s city centre. The festival features a stage, market stalls, activities and food and drink. If you are planning a visit around the festival, check the dates and programme for the current edition.
The Höxberg Panorama Circular Trail is a 14-kilometre circular hiking trail where you can experience Beckum’s natural and cultural landscape as well as the town’s history. It consists of two sections that can be hiked separately: the approximately eight-kilometre “Erlebnispfad Höxberg” and the approximately six-kilometre “Ausflug zum Großsteingrab”. You can choose one section or the entire route. The trail is suitable for families but is not accessible to people with disabilities.
The location-based “Beckum AR Stadtführung” takes visitors to Beckum’s sights with the virtual mascot “Kater Murr” and lets them explore Beckum independently. As app-store availability can change, check in advance whether the application is available.
Since July 2013, the “TwinCable Beckum” cable waterski facility has been operating at Tuttenbrock recreational lake and is suitable for beginners and professionals. Operator and facility details may change, so check them before your visit.
