Steinheim Between Hiking Trails and Furniture History
Accommodation in Steinheim
If you are looking for a hotel in Steinheim, the walking tour, hiking trails, furniture museum and local traditions offer different starting points for planning your stay. You can focus on local history, outdoor activities in a variety of landscapes, or the culture surrounding furniture-making.
Discover Steinheim on Foot
The interactive walking tour covers 13 sights. It starts at the Steinheimer Kump, but you can also begin the tour at any other point. This gives you flexibility in choosing the order of the stops without tying you to a single starting point.
The designated A hiking trails also differ in their landscapes. Four of the six run in and southwest of Steinheim Forest. A1 and A2 stay entirely on forest paths through the species-rich mixed deciduous forest. A3 and A4 circle Hahneberg through an area characterized by meadows, pastures and fields between the Emmer and Steinheim Forest. This gives you a choice between forest trails and open, agricultural landscapes.
A5 and A6 have specific landmarks to help you find your way. A5 starts at an information board near the boules court on the “Im Altenhagen” path, leads through the Emmer floodplains toward Eichholz and crosses the Emmer near Struckstein before returning along the other side. A6 runs east of Eichholz to Kluslinde and then follows the other bank of the Emmer back to Steinheim. Both descriptions give you notable points to help with planning, but their routes and the landscapes mentioned differ.
Furniture History at the Museum
The Steinheim Furniture Museum traces the history of furniture-making in Steinheim and its development over 120 years. It is housed in the former Joseph GĂĽnther furniture factory and covers 900 square metres. The exhibits come from Steinheim businesses. They trace furniture styles from Historicism and Art Nouveau through Art Deco and period furniture to modern designs.
The museum hosts up to four special exhibitions each year. Local artists, collectors and historians present works, photographs, pictures and objects. Topics range from current and historical issues to the city’s club life. In this way, the museum combines the long-term development of furniture-making with changing exhibition themes.
Traditions and Leisure
The Rose Monday parade is an annual tradition in the Emmer town of Steinheim. Its modern history began in 1911; according to the city, it attracts up to 25,000 visitors. In addition, several marksmen’s associations and brotherhoods in Steinheim hold an annual Schützenfest. Rochus Day offers a different perspective on the past: in 1637, then-mayor Homissen and the city council established it as a civic holiday and made the Rochus vow. These historical beginnings and annual traditions offer different insights into local culture.
For swimming, Steinheim’s outdoor pool has a 25-metre swimming pool and diving facilities with 5-, 3- and 1-metre boards. It also has a non-swimmer pool with a water depth of 60 to 125 centimetres, a wide water slide and a cascading shower. The outdoor pool offers a distinct leisure option alongside the walking tour, hiking trails and museum.
