Accommodation in Groß Luckow
Groß Luckow combines a rural setting with a distinctive architectural and manor-house history. When planning your trip, you can focus on several different features: the manor house, the Gothic village church and the hilly landscape. The historic buildings date from different periods; the manor complex and the church have also undergone changes over time.
Manor house and estate
Groß Luckow Manor House was built in 1912 in the Neo-Baroque style and was the ancestral seat of the von Raven family. The landscaped park belonging to the manor house was laid out in the 19th century. The estate thus combines a 19th-century park with the later construction of the manor house in 1912. The avenue leading to the manor house, which was lost during the GDR era, has been replanted. The former washhouse, barn and stable buildings on the estate are listed. These former farm buildings add other parts of the estate to the picture of the manor house. The park and replanted avenue connect the building history of the house with the design of its surroundings.
The village church and its furnishings
The Gothic fieldstone church in Groß Luckow was built at the end of the 13th century and features wall paintings. Most of its 17th-century interior furnishings have been preserved; the altarpiece dates from 1623. Another change came in 1918, when the church received a square, plastered tower superstructure and Art Nouveau interior decoration. The ceiling painting depicts the Spirit of God in the form of a dove within a halo of rays. The church grounds also include a cemetery enclosed by a fieldstone wall. Several periods therefore come together at the church: the medieval building, the 17th-century furnishings and the additions made in 1918. They give the church more than a single historical point of reference.
Landscape and seasonal surroundings
Groß Luckow lies on the border with Brandenburg in a hilly ground moraine landscape. The landscape thus complements the village’s cultural and historical focus with its own geographical and natural setting. Nearby Demenzsee offers a place to spend time during the summer months. Conditions and access may change, so check before visiting. This seasonal note is especially relevant when planning if you would like to include the lake in your plans.
