Fahrenwalde: Discover Stone Churches and Schloss Bröllin
Accommodation in Fahrenwalde
Fahrenwalde has a clear historical focus: churches dating from the 13th century, the history of the Bröllin estate, and contemporary cultural projects are among the town’s highlights. There are two stone churches in Fahrenwalde and the district of Bröllin. Their shared construction period invites comparison, while their notable features differ. Schloss Bröllin adds a festival and bookable activities to the local history. Gut Friedrichshof also points to the historical connection with the Bröllin manor estate.
Stone Churches and Their History
The Fahrenwalde church is a stone building dating from the 13th century. Its massive proportions make it look like a fortress. Bröllin, a district of Fahrenwalde, also has a stone church dating from the 13th century. The Bröllin church is small and has a recessed choir. It also features a medieval roof structure and medieval bricks in the chancel. A recessed choir is set back from the nave; this is a different architectural detail from the fortress-like proportions of the Fahrenwalde church. The churches share their construction period and stonework, but their notable features differ: in Fahrenwalde, it is the overall appearance that stands out; in Bröllin, the focus is on the choir, roof structure, and bricks.
The furnishings of the Bröllin church also include a variety of images. A small cabinet picture appears in one of the stained-glass windows: a gentleman offers a lady a glass of wine. The large altarpiece depicts Jesus and the sinking Peter. The church also has a bronze bell cast by Voss, measuring 72 centimetres in diameter. The cemetery next to the church contains numerous graves of the Stoewahs estate-owning family. The family was connected with the church from 1850 to 1945. Thus, alongside the architectural features, art, a bell, and a dated connection to the local estate history also come into view.
Schloss Bröllin: Estate and Culture
Schloss Bröllin is a historic estate. Its historic grounds offer suitable venues and spaces for dance, theatre, and circus projects, visual arts, music, literature, and youth projects. Schloss Bröllin is therefore associated not only with the history of the estate, but also with a range of artistic uses. The Detect Classic Festival has been held at Schloss Bröllin since 2022. If the festival is relevant to your travel plans, check the current event dates in advance.
Schloss Bröllin offers rooms and facilities for workshops, team retreats, conferences, seminars, and yoga weekends; these activities require a booking. This is a different planning consideration from the festival: booking is required for the group activities listed, whereas the event dates are what matter when planning for the festival. This makes it easy to distinguish the different occasions associated with Schloss Bröllin.
The Historical Connection to Gut Friedrichshof
Gut Friedrichshof was founded as an outlying estate, or Vorwerk, of the Bröllin manor estate. Documents first mention it in 1745 in connection with the owner of the main estate, Johann Gottfried Prüwer, hereditary lord and court lord. This historical classification establishes the connection to the Bröllin manor estate as the main estate; Friedrichshof is therefore not separate from the history of this estate. Alongside the churches and Schloss Bröllin, the local history also brings to light the relationship between two estates. The year 1745 gives this connection a specific date.
