Mühl Rosin: Inselsee, School and Cycle Routes
Accommodation in Mühl Rosin
There are several themes to explore during a stay in Mühl Rosin: the swimming area on Lake Inselsee, the history of the local school and cycling connections. The wider Rostock travel region offers further cultural and historical as well as scenic attractions: The theatre in Güstrow is Mecklenburg’s oldest surviving civic theatre. Guided tours at the Wolhynian Resettler Museum in Linstow use ethnographic objects, photographs and documents to tell the story of the Volhynian Germans from the mid-19th century until their settlement in Mecklenburg after the Second World War. Sternberger Seenland Nature Park, with its deeply incised breakthrough valleys along the Warnow, numerous lakes, picturesque hills and extensive forests, is particularly inviting for hiking and cycling. Several nature parks also offer discovery tours focused on beavers, wolves and white-tailed eagles.
Swimming Area and Activities on Lake Inselsee
The Mühl Rosin swimming area is located in the Güstrow section of Lake Inselsee, on the southeastern shore. It is in a natural setting and has a small sunbathing lawn and a jetty.
You can also take a circular tour of Lake Inselsee aboard an electrically powered cutter that can carry up to 20 people. Alternatively, you can sail or row. A cutter tour and the two alternatives mentioned offer different ways to spend time on the water. Check the availability of the respective option before your trip.
School History Across Several Eras
The history of schooling in Mühl Rosin dates back to 1770, when children began receiving lessons in the village. The first school building was built in 1859; classes were held in its rooms until 1950.
In 1950, the Mühl Rosin central school opened as the first newly built school in the then district of Schwerin. Classes began there on 1 September of that year, with 159 pupils initially taught in three classrooms. Today, the central school is a regional school. Some rooms in the modern extension are used, among other things, for the municipal library and municipal archive.
Honigberg and Remembrance of Former Residents
Farmstead No. 3 is known as “Honigberg.” None of its former residential or farm buildings can be seen today. An information board tells visitors about the former residents and their lives.
Cycle Routes Between Mühl Rosin and Güstrow
A 5 km-long cycle route runs from Mühl Rosin to Güstrow along Lake Inselsee. The route provides a useful reference point for planning a cycling trip; check its current course using cycling maps.
Another cycle connection is the section between Bölkow and Mühl Rosin. The first construction phase was completed in 2022. The completed sections create a continuous connection between three municipalities, with a link to the regional centre of Güstrow; one section runs between Bölkow and Mühl Rosin.
