City Walls, Churches and Art
The almost completely preserved city wall is about 2.3 kilometres long. It includes four magnificent city gates, Wiekhäuser and the Mönchenturm tower. To explore Brick Gothic architecture, head to St. Mary's Church. The Schauspielhaus on Pfaffenstraße is the oldest surviving theatre in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Walking and Cycling Routes Around the City
The 40-kilometre GRĂśNE RUNDE connects the city's recreational areas and passes through nearby countryside and natural landscapes. Another longer route is the 37-kilometre circular path around Lake Tollensesee. It offers scenic views and challenging climbs through the Mecklenburg Ice Age landscape.
The routes are similar in length, but have different focuses: the GRĂśNE RUNDE connects urban recreational areas, while the other route circles the lake, with its climbs forming an explicit part of the route. There are also opportunities for walking and cycling at Lake Tollensesee.
For cyclists, Neubrandenburg is an important stop on the Elbe-Oderhaff cycle route from Lüneburg to the Baltic Sea. The Ice Age Route of the “Mecklenburg Ice Age Landscape” Geopark also passes through Neubrandenburg, with cross-connections running along its axis. These routes offer different options for cycling trips and walks.
Time at Lake Tollensesee and Getting Around
Augustabad on Lake Tollensesee has the longest beach in Neubrandenburg, a bathing island and plenty of space for families to play. These features give the bathing area a family-friendly character. Boats and bicycles can be rented on the lake's north shore, at the end of Kulturpark.
