The natural swimming area run by the Waldbad Wittfeitzen support association is in Groß Wittfeitzen. The 2026 public swimming season has ended. In the larger Lüchow-Dannenberg destination, the Wendland Rundlingsmuseum in the circular village of Lübeln features a farmstead as an open-air museum. Traditional crafts are brought to life there in the pottery workshop, forge, bakehouse and wheelwright’s workshop. The Göhrde offers a natural highlight: it is the largest contiguous mixed forest area in northern Germany. With its many protected areas, the Göhrde forest provides a habitat for numerous rare and endangered species.

The Hitzacker Archaeological Center is an open-air museum on a site that was already used by people around 4,000 years ago. Three reconstructed longhouses and numerous interactive stations give visitors a glimpse into the everyday lives of people in the past. Spread across several floors, Dannenberg’s Waldemarturm displays finds and exhibits from the town’s early history, changing art exhibitions, and a permanent exhibition on flooding.

The Kulturelle Landpartie is also a reason in its own right to travel to the larger Lüchow-Dannenberg destination. Since 1989, artists and craftspeople have opened the doors to their farmyards and studios every year between Ascension Day and Pentecost, presenting their work over twelve days. The exact calendar dates vary from year to year. During the Landpartie, visitors can follow suggested cycling routes to reach numerous exhibitions and theater performances directly.
