A stay in Prezelle can focus on nature, local history or horse riding. If you are looking for a hotel, this distinction can help you decide what to focus on during your trip: the landscape, church complex and riding tours each offer a different perspective on the area.

Nature between heathland and forest

The Nemitz Heath Nature Reserve extends into the municipality of Prezelle. Nemitz Heath is a breeding ground for birds that inhabit open and semi-open, warm and dry heathland, as well as open woodland edges. Both heathland and open woodland edges are therefore among the habitats that define the area’s natural character. These different breeding habitats are of particular interest to nature enthusiasts.

Prezelle also lies on the edge of a 6,000-hectare woodland complex. This offers another landscape to consider when planning your trip: the heathland and the extensive forest can be explored as distinct areas of interest.

Church complex in the village centre

The Prezelle church complex is located in the centre of the village. It consists of the Protestant church and the churchyard surrounding it, is of historical and urban-planning significance, and is listed as a protected group of buildings. The present-day church dates back to a new building erected in the mid-18th century, commissioned by the von Bernstorff family, who were the patrons.

The church complex also includes a war memorial. It was erected after the First World War and extended around 1950. The church building and memorial thus represent different historical periods: the church’s construction history and the later commemoration of the war.

Riding tours for different levels

A riding station in Prezelle offers overnight accommodation for riders travelling through the area. The Prezelle–Heidehaus–Nemitz circular ride passes through Nemitz Heath and includes a stop at Heidehaus. At the time of research, the regional tourism portal described the circular ride as particularly suitable for beginners; it also stated that children and young people were required to wear helmets on this tour. Check the suitability and helmet requirements before setting off.

The Prezelle–Lanze circular ride is a short tour through heathland and is particularly suitable for riders returning to the saddle. The ride along the Elbe riverbank leads from Prezelle through Gartow Forest and Gorleben Forest to the Elbe near Laase. The two heathland rides differ in their stated suitability: beginners for the Prezelle–Heidehaus–Nemitz circular ride, and returning riders for the short Prezelle–Lanze circular ride.

Culture in the wider Lüchow-Dannenberg destination

In the wider Lüchow-Dannenberg destination, the Wendland Rundlingsmuseum is located in Lübeln. In the circular village, it features a farmstead as an open-air museum. Traditional crafts are brought to life there in the pottery, forge, bakehouse and wheelwright’s workshop. The museum complements Prezelle’s local history with a distinct cultural attraction from the region.

Another seasonal attraction in Lüchow-Dannenberg is the Kulturelle Landpartie. Since 1989, artists and craftspeople have opened their farm gates and studios each year between Ascension Day and Pentecost, displaying their work for twelve days. Dates, programme and routes vary from year to year, so check these details before planning your visit.
