Twistetal is set in the attractive landscape of North Waldeck and combines a rural character with hospitality. There are several options to consider when planning your trip: the Twiste Open-Air Theatre, the Twiste Cycle Path, hiking trails around Berndorf and the leisure facilities at the outdoor swimming pools. This allows you to make culture, exercise and time outdoors different parts of your stay.

Twiste Open-Air Theatre: History and Visiting

The Twiste Open-Air Theatre has a performance history dating back to 1960. The current venue in Bachtringhäuser Tal was completed for the first performance on 15 July 1978. These two dates mark different milestones: the start of performances and the completion of the current venue. Around 400 seats are protected from sun and rain by two retractable awnings. The stage area is accessible; there is also a separate wheelchair-accessible toilet. It takes approximately 15 minutes to walk from Twiste station to the open-air theatre. The approximate walking time from the station helps you factor the journey to the theatre into your day’s plans.

Get Around by Bike

The Twiste Cycle Path links idyllic settlements with attractive river valleys and passes historic sights. There are places to stop for refreshments along the route, as well as opportunities for a comfortable break. The route is suitable for both family rides and more athletic cycling tours. When planning, you can consider two questions separately: what kind of tour suits your plans, and what opportunities to take a break are important along the way?

Outdoor Swimming Pools and Hiking Trails

The outdoor swimming pools offer a beach volleyball court, play facilities and a children’s pool. So, as well as swimming, there are specific opportunities for sports and outdoor play.

The Berndorf hiking map shows various trails around Berndorf. If you prefer to get around on foot, you can use this map as a starting point for planning your hikes; the Twiste Cycle Path is another option for a bike ride.

In the wider Waldeck-Frankenberg destination

In the wider Waldeck-Frankenberg destination, the ancient beech forests of Kellerwald-Edersee National Park have been a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site since 2011. The 66-kilometre Urwaldsteig Edersee can be hiked in eight stages or as part of a three-day ranger-led hike, with each stage covering around 22 kilometres.

The GeoFoyer Kalkturm Korbach presents the landscape and wildlife around Korbach as they were 250 million years ago. Another exhibition covers the extraction and processing of limestone, as well as its industrial use in the quarry for over 100 years.

A cultural and historical highlight is the Historic Town Hall of Frankenberg (Eder), a half-timbered town hall dating from 1509. Its ten towers represent the town’s ten guilds. The Landfrauen weekly market is held every Saturday in the Rathausschirn of the Historic Town Hall. Check the market date when planning your trip.
