Steinbach (Taunus): Town Center, Markets and Festivals
Accommodation in Steinbach
Steinbach (Taunus) brings together local history, recurring events, two weekly markets and named routes. To plan your stay, you can choose a focus: the town center and its landmarks, a market day, a festival during the year or a point along a route. Events take place from June through the Advent season; the Bat Trail adds its own theme of forests and bats to this selection.
Town Center: Church and Fountain
The historic Protestant St. George’s Church is located in the old town center of Steinbach (Taunus). The Bütt, a landmark of Steinbach, is a fountain on Freier Platz. These represent two different aspects of the town: the church is described as historic and Protestant, while the Bütt is identified as a fountain and landmark. Freier Platz is also the site of the weekly Tuesday market. When finding your way around, you can distinguish between the historic town center, the fountain and a regularly used market site.
Festivals Throughout the Year
Steinbach’s town festival takes place every year on a weekend in June on Bahnstraße. Kerb is held on the second weekend in October and commemorates the dedication of St. George’s Chapel. The Christmas market was established in 1981 and takes place on the second weekend of Advent. For travel planning, the three events can be distinguished by when they take place: June for the town festival, October for Kerb and the Advent season for the Christmas market. If you would like to plan your stay around an event, check the specific dates for that year in advance.
Weekly Markets and the Bakehouse
Steinbach’s weekly market is held on Tuesdays at Freier Platz and on Saturdays at St.-Avertin-Platz. The day of the week also identifies the market location: Freier Platz is for Tuesday, St.-Avertin-Platz for Saturday. At the bakehouse in Steinbach, bread is baked and enjoyed by hand, following an old custom.
Route Junction at Äppelwoibrückchen
At Äppelwoibrückchen, the Regionalpark circular route intersects a direct route from Frankfurt-Praunheim to Steinbach in the Taunus. The names indicate different types of routes: a circular route and a direct connection. The little bridge itself is also a resting place with small areas to sit and relax. The site therefore serves both as a point of reference for navigating the routes and as a place to linger.
Bat Trail in Steinbach Forest
The Bat Trail in Steinbach Forest adds a nature-focused theme to the routes. The educational trail is around two kilometers long and initially has four stations about forests, habitats and bats. It was created in September 2026. This sets it apart from Äppelwoibrückchen: there, the junction, route connection and resting place shape the site; the trail focuses on the habitats and animals mentioned. If you plan to visit, check current access conditions beforehand.
A Regional Perspective: Hochtaunus
The wider Hochtaunus travel destination extends beyond Steinbach. The town of Steinbach names the Taunus and nearby Altkönig and Feldberg as places for recreation. The Hessenpark Open-Air Museum is in Neu-Anspach in the Hochtaunuskreis; a family trail there shows children and adults together how people used to live and work. These destinations belong to the wider region, while the church, Bütt, markets and route points mentioned here are local Steinbach topics.
