Trails and active experiences

To get your bearings on the Weiltal Trail, it is worth distinguishing between the section in Weilrod and the entire route. The Weilrod section starts at the Landstein ruins and runs through the valley between Altweilnau and Neuweilnau. The Weiltal Trail begins near the source of the Weil, at the “Rotes Kreuz” car park near Schmitten, follows the Weil through Weilrod, and continues for a total of 47.5 kilometres to Weilburg on the Lahn. Check trail conditions before setting out.

The approximately five-kilometre Energy Experience Tour in the Weilrod wind farm combines information boards and play and quiz stations with information about the history of energy use. Its length can be compared with the Weiltal Trail’s total length of 47.5 kilometres; the two figures refer to different types of routes and different focuses.

At the Neuweilnau barbecue area, the barefoot path is part of the Path of the Senses along the Weil. You can experience different surfaces barefoot there. The focus is on feeling the ground underfoot, while the Energy Experience Tour features information, games, and quizzes. The Cratzenbach quarry has a slate wall almost ten metres high that serves as a climbing practice area. Because of its incline, it is particularly suitable for beginners. Check current access arrangements before visiting.

Culture and creative activities

The Marienkapelle in Hasselbach was built in 1892 in a historicist style and is listed as a cultural monument for historical and artistic reasons. The Landstein church ruins reopened in summer 2024 after restoration work to preserve the historic walls. If you would like to visit the ruins, check the current visitor regulations before you travel.
