Forest trails, glass installations and traces of the Limes give Glashütten a variety of distinct features. When planning your trip, you can consider different options: an art trail in the forest, a nature loop or archaeological evidence of Roman frontier history. The wider Hochtaunus travel region also offers suitable themes for nature and culture enthusiasts.

Forest trails with different themes

The waldGLASweg is an art trail in the Glashütten forest. Seven glass installations line its 1.5-kilometre route. The nature discovery trail is longer, at around 3.3 kilometres, and follows a circular route between Glashütten and Schloßborn; one of its main starting points is in Glashütten. Information boards focus on local flora and fauna, while other stops offer sensory activities, fitness exercises and yoga. The distances provide a concrete basis for comparison when planning, but do not indicate how long the walks take.

Another way to explore the hiking theme is the certified Limes discovery trail. The information portal at the edge of Glashütten marks the gateway to its Königsetappe (King’s Stage); the trail passes through the municipality. The portal is therefore a landmark for this section, not the only possible starting point.

Limes history and views

The archaeological remains offer a distinct focus. The kiln complex “An der Emsbachschlucht” was conserved because of its good state of preservation and is unique of its kind in Germany. The remains of Maisel fort are also located within the municipality. This small fort was used to monitor crossings of the Limes.

The new LIMES Tower on Kröfteler Weg was inaugurated on August 30, 2025. The municipality announced its public opening in September 2025. From the 12-metre-high tower platform, hikers and walkers can enjoy distant views. The date and viewpoint add a more recent point of reference to the Limes themes.

More options in the wider Hochtaunus travel region

The Hochtaunus Limes discovery trail also extends beyond Glashütten: It follows the route of the Limes hiking trail or the Limes cycling route and runs for more than 30 kilometres from Glashütten to Ober-Mörlen. At Saalburg Roman Fort, guided tours cover the interior of the fort, the outer civilian settlement and the Limes. The “extra muros” tour focuses on the civilian settlement and the area outside the fort, including the fort’s bathhouse, hostel, earthworks and the Limes. The main difference between the two tours is therefore which parts of the fort and its surroundings they cover.

Kronberg Castle offers another historical perspective. It stands on a rocky spur on the southern slope of the Taunus and was probably built in the 12th century as an imperial castle on Hohenstaufen crown lands. Since 2008, the museum in the north wing of the middle castle has housed a permanent exhibition on the castle’s history. The museum and interior rooms can only be visited as part of a guided tour. The nearly 44-metre-high free-standing tower offers expansive views over the surrounding area and, on a clear day, as far as the Spessart and Odenwald.

At the Hessenpark open-air museum in Neu-Anspach, a family trail shows children and adults together how people used to live, make their homes and work. Bus route 63 connects Wehrheim or Neu-Anspach/Anspach station with the Neu-Anspach/Anspach Hessenpark stop. Check the timetable details before travelling.

In the associated municipality, Glashütten-Schloßborn outdoor swimming pool has a heated main pool with areas for swimmers and non-swimmers, as well as a separate children’s paddling pool.
