Discover Grassau: Lake, Moorland and Culture
Accommodation in Grassau
Grassau brings together a range of themes for planning your trip: swimming and leisure at Reifinger See, moorland and technology at the Salt & Moor Museum, and culture at the Sawallisch Estate. The facilities and activities vary, so you can plan activities and practical arrangements separately.
Swimming and leisure at Reifinger See
Reifinger See is a swimming lake with a water surface of 20,000 square metres. Facilities include sunbathing lawns and a jetty, as well as a non-swimmer area and a bathing area for small children. There is also a mud play bridge for young children, along with a playground, a beach volleyball court and a small raft. In addition to the bathing areas, there are activities for play and sports by the water.
There is a wheelchair-accessible changing cubicle at the lake. A wheelchair available for use on site is kept in a cubicle secured with a euro lock. A ramp on the shore makes it easier to enter the water; the accessible toilet can be accessed with a euro key. If you rely on any of these facilities, check their availability before your trip.
Moor Adventure Trail and Salt & Moor Museum
The Moor Adventure Trail starts right by the Salt & Moor Museum between Grassau and Rottau and is partially accessible. The trail is being redesigned, so check the current route before your visit. The route for the version suitable for pushchairs has changed, and the forest trail is not suitable for pushchairs.
Parking and a public toilet are available at the museum. If you rely on these facilities, check the details before setting off. The museum offers a variety of insights: displays, models, films and simulations show how the historic brine pumping station worked. There is also a moorland exhibition featuring original exhibits, dioramas and interactive elements. The Kendlmühlfilzen, one of the largest raised bogs in southern Germany, borders the Salt & Moor Museum Klaushäusl directly.
Culture at the Sawallisch Estate
The Sawallisch Estate in Grassau is managed by the Wolfgang Sawallisch Foundation. It is open to visitors for guided tours and for concerts held regularly at the villa. If you would like to plan a visit, check the calendar in advance for the relevant dates.
Bus connections and planning
The Achental bus route 9505 serves the Grassau Kirchplatz stop. Taking a bicycle on board is not always possible. If you plan to travel with a bicycle, check the current conditions before your journey.
The destinations discussed also differ in their visiting arrangements: Reifinger See focuses on swimming and leisure activities, the museum brings together moorland and technology, and guided tours and concert dates are relevant at the Sawallisch Estate. When planning your stay in Grassau, you can first consider which of these activities matter to you, then check the relevant information before your visit.
