When looking for a hotel in Trostberg, your plans may be the deciding factor: trails with views of the town and the Alps, time by the Alz, and sports and swimming facilities offer different options. Some activities depend on the season or the weather. So consider which of these you would like to include in your stay.

Trails through the countryside and town

The Oberfeldkirchner loop leads across open fields and through quiet forests to Trostberg. There, views stretch across the small town to the Alps. The route thus combines scenery along the way with a view of the town at the destination. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, this loop offers both open fields and stretches through the forest.

The Schlossberg trails serve a different purpose: they are the shortest connection between Trostberg’s old town and the hospital. From one of the highest points in the town, views open up in good weather across Trostberg, towards Baumburg Monastery in neighbouring Altenmarkt, and as far as the Berchtesgaden and Chiemgau Alps. This gives you two distinct types of route: the Oberfeldkirchner loop across fields and through forests, and the connection between the old town and the hospital, with its viewpoints.

Time by the Alz and in the Rose Garden

Along the Alz in Trostberg, gravel banks invite you to relax on the riverbank or cool off in the river. Shady paths along the Alz are ideal for walks. These offer different ways to spend your time: take a break on the riverbank, cool off in the water, or walk along the shady paths.

Picnics are possible in the Rose Garden. Seating is available, or you can bring your own blanket. For your break, you can choose between using the seating provided or packing a blanket. The skate park is located on Jahnstraße, opposite the P9 Festplatz/Sportzentrum car park. This information makes it easy to include the park as a specific destination in your day’s plans.

Seasonal sports and swimming facilities

When weather conditions allow, several kilometres of cross-country ski trails are groomed around Trostberg in winter. The trails are therefore a weather-dependent option for the colder months; their exact location is not specified. If you are planning a trip that includes cross-country skiing, bear in mind that it depends on the weather.

Trostberg’s heated outdoor pool has a 50-metre sports pool and a 220-metre channel for swimmers. If you plan to visit, please check current operating information and seasonal availability beforehand. The trails, riverside areas and outdoor pool also differ in whether they offer a weather-dependent activity or a swimming option to include in your plans.

Traunstein district: nature and culture

For a broader regional overview, it is worth looking at Traunstein district. The Chiemsee and Waginger See are located there; the Chiemgau Alps have more than 170 alpine pastures and peaks reaching heights of up to 2,000 metres. The Seeoner Seen are listed as a nature reserve in the district, and Waginger See and Tachinger See as a landscape protection area. These designated protected areas help preserve biological diversity, safeguard rare habitats, and protect the natural and cultural landscape.

The town of Traunstein also has its own cultural highlights: preserved saltworks buildings and the saltworks chapel offer an insight into Traunstein’s salt history; the saltworks chapel is the largest chapel in Germany. A historical town walk passes the Klosterkirche cultural forum and continues to the saltworks chapel, the saltworks buildings and the Salinenpark, built in 2019. Alongside its natural and scenic attractions, the district also offers tangible evidence of its salt history.
