Cross-country skiing and cycling
Fischbachau has around 44 km of excellently groomed trails for classic cross-country skiing and skating. Grooming and availability depend on winter conditions. One specific cross-country skiing route runs from Fischbachau via Elbach to Hundham: it is 17.5 km long, takes three hours and starts at the Fischbachau heated outdoor pool car park. The route is rated difficult and is also family-friendly; there is also an opportunity to stop for refreshments. Snow and grooming conditions on this route also vary seasonally. Check the latest conditions before setting off.
The municipality of Fischbachau has an extensive network of cycling routes for different types of bikes. In the northern part of the municipality, leisurely cycling routes offer no extreme sporting challenges; in the south, there are demanding mountain bike routes in the mountains. One option with specific details is the family-friendly Große Leitzachtalrunde, route no. 13a from “RadlTraum” Süd. It starts at Fischbachau Schule, is 20.8 km long, is of moderate difficulty and takes 2 hours 15 minutes. As route conditions can change, check them before setting off.

The heated outdoor pool guarantees a water temperature of 24 °C. Facilities include an indoor heated hall with a swim-through channel to the outdoor pools, aqua fitness activities, a large sunbathing lawn and a sun terrace. The heated hall is designed for use in all weather conditions. Children can enjoy a water playground and two water slides, including a 62 m-long giant water slide.
The pool is rated according to the “Reisen für Alle” criteria and carries the “Information on Accessibility” award. As opening arrangements may vary seasonally and accessibility information may be updated, check the latest details before your visit.
Sights and traditions
The Leitzachsteg half-timbered bridge is one of Fischbachau’s sights and can be explored on a short hike. In the district of Hammer, hikers, riders and people with disabilities can cross the Leitzach conveniently via the footbridge. The Birkenstein pilgrimage chapel stands above Fischbachau.
In Hundham, in the municipality of Fischbachau, the autumn Leonhardifahrt is celebrated as a pilgrimage. Decorated horses, festival wagons and traditional festive costumes are part of this tradition; check the specific dates separately. During the monastery period, the cemetery church of Mariä Schutz, also known as the Old Parish Church, served as Fischbachau’s church for laypeople.
The architecture also offers historical connections: the Church of the Holy Trinity in Wörnsmühl was built in 1965 under the direction of cathedral master builder Dr. Brannekämper. Its coloured concrete windows and the window behind the altar are intended to evoke the Baroque interiors of the Bavarian Oberland. The Jodlhof farmhouse was decorated with façade frescoes around 1786. They show how the householders of the time interpreted the political events of their era.
