Valley: Organ Culture, Nature and Golf

Valley combines an organ museum with an unusual architectural history, art and activities along the Mangfall. There is also golf, brewery tours and two railway stations in different districts. Organ Center and Castle History

The Organ Center in the Old Castle in Valley is considered the world’s largest organ museum. The collection includes more than 60 organs, 24 of which can be played. Tours of the historic rooms offer insights into the organ’s significance in world history and let visitors admire the technology behind the instruments. The Old Castle now serves as an organ museum and regularly hosts highly regarded cultural and musical events.

The Old Castle in Valley includes the oldest secular building in the Miesbach district and one of Bavaria’s oldest court buildings. From the High Middle Ages until 1848, the court building continuously served as a court and administrative office for the county. The Zollinger Hall has a more recent history: it served as a sawmill hall from 1923 to 1999, was moved to the Old Castle in Valley in 2001, and has served there as the organ museum’s music and event hall since 2003. This site brings together a long history of judicial and administrative use and the hall’s later cultural role.

Art, Beer and Golf

More than 20 monolithic stone sculptures by sculptors from around the world stand at the SKULPTUR-LICHTUNG in Hohendilching, Valley. This gives the site a different artistic focus from the organs in the Old Castle: here, monumental stone sculpture takes center stage.

Schlossbrauerei Valley regularly offers brewery tours and beer seminars. Check the available dates before your trip. Getting Here by Train

Valley has two railway stations. The station in the Kreuzstraße district is on the Mangfall Valley Railway; a second station is in Darching. The Bayerische Oberlandbahn runs hourly from there on the Holzkirchen–Bayrischzell line. The two stations therefore differ both in their location and the line they serve. The Mangfall and Outdoor Activities

The Mangfall winds through Valley’s unspoiled, natural landscape in the Munich Gravel Plain. Relaxed walking routes follow the river, passing mills and unspoiled countryside. The river and trails offer different ways to enjoy the outdoors: the Mangfall shapes the landscape, while the routes combine riverside walks with mills and nature.

Valley also has cross-country ski trails with views of the nearby mountains. Before a winter outing, it is a good idea to check the current trail conditions.

Culture in Miesbach

In the wider destination of Miesbach, the Waitzinger Keller cultural center presents opera, operetta, musicals, cabaret, concerts, children’s events, traditional celebrations and exhibitions throughout the year. With a core collection of more than 3,000 objects, the Miesbach Local History Museum explores the natural and cultural landscape of the Oberland region. Its holdings include examples of Miesbach furniture painting, religious folk art from the period when Miesbach was a place of pilgrimage, and tools and equipment from guilds and trades. The museum also features a farmhouse parlor, a shoemaker’s workshop and a hatmaker’s workshop. These cultural offerings in Miesbach provide a distinct focus alongside Valley’s organ center and sculptures.
