Dorfprozelten offers several points of interest to consider when planning your trip: paths through the vineyards, forest trails, a red deer enclosure and topics related to local history. If you are looking for a hotel, you can consider whether you would prefer to spend your days hiking and enjoying the scenery or visiting cultural sites. Each of the routes described has its own course and starting point.

Paths Between the Vineyard and the Forest

The vineyard circular trail starts at the parking lot by the Alte Obstplantage. It leads to a rest area with benches at the upper end of the vineyard, then returns to the starting point through the vineyard. The route description thus combines a circuit with a clearly identified rest area. If you are mainly interested in vineyard scenery, this offers a different focus from the longer forest trails.

The red deer enclosure is located above the vineyard at the edge of the forest and can be visited year-round. Check local notices before visiting. The somewhat longer Eiserner Pol trail starts at the parking lot by the Main River and follows quiet forest paths and steep climbs to the “Eiserner Pol.” Along the way, there are views across the vineyards to the Main Valley. The options described therefore differ significantly: the vineyard circuit passes through the vines and leads to a rest area, while the Eiserner Pol trail is described in terms of forest sections, climbs and views.

Another circuit is the Bichelberg circular trail. It also starts at the parking lot by the Alte Obstplantage, but first descends through traditional orchards to the European Cultural Trail “Altenbücher Kirchweg.” Passing the memorial stone, it continues into the Sellgrund; the trail then runs through the forest back toward Dorfprozelten. The route therefore connects traditional orchards, a named cultural trail and the Sellgrund. Before setting out, it is advisable to check local route information for the hiking trails described.

Route to Kollenburg Castle Ruins

The Kollenburg-Kapellen-Weg starts and ends at the hiking parking lot by the Main River. From the Steingasse signpost, it follows the Marienweg and passes the Heimatblick viewpoint on the way to the Kollenburg Castle Ruins. The route continues past a shelter to Dorfprozelten's Kriegergedächtniskapelle (War Memorial Chapel). The description thus lists several waypoints in a fixed order. If you are choosing between trails, this route offers a different sequence of named stops from the circuits around the vineyard and Bichelberg.

Local History and Cultural Points of Interest

Dorfprozelten's local history museum is housed in the former railway station building. Rotating exhibitions explore the history of the community and the life's work of earlier generations. If you plan to visit the museum, check its current opening hours in advance. The former railway station is the setting for exhibitions covering village history and the lives of earlier generations.

The name “Dornbuschschmiede” is also part of the village's history: in Dorfprozelten, it is commonly used after the last blacksmith, August Dornbusch, who died in 1983. The local history museum and the name Dornbuschschmiede offer different ways to explore local history—through rotating exhibitions in one case and the memory of a blacksmith known by name in the other.

Miltenberg and the District

The wider travel destination of Miltenberg offers further landscape and cultural themes. Miltenberg District lies between the Odenwald and Spessart ranges and features deeply cut river and stream valleys. In Miltenberg, the Museum Stadt presents the history of the town and region in three historic half-timbered houses on the market square, the Schnatterloch.

Miltenberg District's cultural weeks take place every year from mid-September; the exact dates vary. Events include concerts featuring classical and contemporary music, as well as jazz and electronic music. The events held in any given year may change. If you would like to plan your trip around the cultural weeks, check the dates and program in advance.
