Discover Elsenfeld: Culture, Trails and Wine
Accommodation in Elsenfeld
Elsenfeld offers several different highlights for a stay: a local history museum in a half-timbered house, trails with a range of themes, the Elsavapark leisure complex and a launch point on the Main for paddlers. There is also a wine-tasting room and regular concerts at Himmelthal Abbey Church. Depending on your interests, you can focus to varying degrees on local history, art and outdoor activities.
Local history at the Wamser House
The local history museum of the Elsenfeld market town is housed in the Wamser House, built in 1751 and the oldest half-timbered house in Elsenfeld. Its exhibits include an original shoemaker’s workshop, an old joinery workshop and a home sewing room. The museum also displays objects and equipment from agriculture and crafts, as well as items from the everyday lives of earlier generations.
The museum brings together specific workshop settings and objects from different areas of life. If you are interested in local history, you can discover both insights into traditional crafts and reminders of everyday life in the past. Please check the current opening hours in advance of your visit.
Trails with different themes
Opened in October 2015, the RĂĽck Reflection Trail is about six kilometres long. Seven stations featuring works of art and benches invite visitors to pause, reflect and linger. Its theme differs from that of the six-kilometre Cultural Trail in RĂĽck, a district of Elsenfeld, which focuses on the Baroque period.
The Cultural Trail focuses in particular on Himmelthal Abbey Church. It was rebuilt in 1753 and given a Baroque interior. The two trails can therefore be distinguished by their content: art installations and resting places shape the theme of the RĂĽck Reflection Trail, while the Cultural Trail focuses on Baroque history. Elsenfeld is also part of the six-stage Franconian Red Wine Hiking Trail.
Himmelthal Abbey Church also offers a cultural experience of its own: thanks to its acoustics, the “Himmelthal Summer Concerts” have been held there every year for over 30 years. If you are planning to attend a concert, check the specific dates before your visit.
Elsavapark and the Main
Elsavapark is located in the centre of Elsenfeld. This leisure complex has a park that can be used free of charge and at your own risk. Facilities include a petting zoo, a playground with water features in summer, beach volleyball courts, a halfpipe, a soccer field, table tennis and giant chess. The water features are specifically a summer attraction; individual facilities may change, so it is worth checking the latest information before your visit.
There is a launch point for paddlers on the Main in Elsenfeld, marked with the “Yellow Wave” logo. This is another separate option to consider when planning your leisure activities. The information about the park and the Main describes different opportunities: facilities within the leisure complex and a launch point on the river for paddlers.
Wine and other activities
The wine-tasting room at Himmelthal Abbey is open to all wine lovers once a month. It is run in rotation by wine-growing families from RĂĽck-Schippach. As it opens monthly, check the current dates in advance if you are planning a visit.
Cycling enthusiasts can find the Bike-Lehr-Trail project at the “Dammsfeld” hiking car park. It is intended to help riders improve their cycling skills in a targeted way. Check in advance whether the project is currently available.
