Bischofswiesen offers a range of options to help you plan your trip, including cross-country and downhill skiing, church art and landscapes.

Cross-country and downhill skiing

The Aschauerweiher cross-country skiing center in Bischofswiesen offers eight trails of varying difficulty, with a total of 16 kilometers of trails. The stadium loop is a special feature: weather permitting, it is covered with machine-made snow. From Tuesday to Thursday, floodlights illuminate the loop until around 8 p.m. Since conditions depend on the weather, we recommend checking the latest conditions before planning your cross-country skiing day.

The Götschen ski area has a dual role: it serves as a training and competition venue for elite sports and as a family ski area for locals and visitors. Bischofswiesen therefore offers both trails of varying difficulty and a ski area that serves these two purposes. Götschen Ski School offers professional ski and snowboard lessons. Check directly for current lesson availability.

Churches, art and a playground

The Maria Hilf pilgrimage church was completed in 1798/99 and is the oldest church in Bischofswiesen. It is located in the high-altitude district of Loipl. The Church of Creation offers a different architectural and artistic accent: its timber-beam structure extends far into the church interior. In 2008, Schönau artist Christoph Merker created wooden picture panels in warm colors. The historic church in Loipl and the described timber structure with its picture panels thus showcase different aspects of the churches in Bischofswiesen.

Another local attraction is the adventure playground by the school in Bischofswiesen. Its facilities include playhouses, a climbing net, a swing, a balance course and water features. The individual elements offer different ways to play and be active, adding a playful focus of their own to the religious and cultural themes.

Landscapes and views

Kastensteinerwand lies just beyond the town center. From the viewpoint there, you can see the Watzmann. Together with the adjoining Dachlmoos, Böcklmoos in the Strub district is considered the largest and best-preserved raised bog in the Berchtesgaden Alps. The viewpoint and the bog represent two different landscape features: a view of a named mountain and a raised bog considered as a whole.

Berchtesgadener Land as a wider destination

The wider Berchtesgadener Land destination encompasses landscapes ranging from the gently rolling Rupertiwinkel in the north to Berchtesgaden National Park on the border with Austria. The national park has a 260-kilometer network of hiking trails and alpine routes. This regional perspective adds a broader landscape context to the attractions described in Bischofswiesen.

Other attractions are also part of the wider Berchtesgadener Land destination: At the Berchtesgaden Salt Mine, visitors cross the underground Mirror Lake on a raft, 130 meters below ground, and see glittering salt crystals. During opening hours, the Grassl Distillery visitor center in Unterau offers a signposted tour about the distillation of gentian, juniper, gin and masterwort, as well as a free tasting of 40 specialties. Opening hours and visitor offerings may change; check these details before visiting.
