Teisendorf: Hiking, Cycling Routes and Local History
Accommodation in Teisendorf
Teisendorf combines a hilly landscape shaped by agriculture and farming traditions with cycling routes, geological themes and local customs. This gives you several interests to choose from when planning your trip: outdoor activities, historical connections or information about how the landscape was formed. You can focus on walks and hikes, cycling routes or a stay centred around a recurring custom.
Walks and hikes
The gentle hills of the municipality of Teisendorf are ideal for walks and easy hikes. Agriculture and farming traditions have shaped the landscape for centuries. Whether you choose a walk or an easy hike, the gently rolling landscape remains the common thread.
A free hiking map and helpful hiking tips are available from the Teisendorf Tourist Information Office. From July to September, the Tourist Information Office also offers free guided hikes. Before your visit, check that the map and hikes are currently available. This lets you choose between finding your own way with a map and tips or joining a guided hike.
Cycling routes and getting here
Three long-distance cycling routes pass through Teisendorf: the Mozart Cycle Route, the Lake Constance–Königssee Cycle Route and the Via Julia. These are three distinct routes; choose based on the route you want to follow.
The Teisendorf Beer Hiking Trail has a specific starting point: it begins in the town centre at the Wieninger Brewery. You can travel to Teisendorf by bus or train. If you use either option, check the timetable for your travel date.
Geopark and local history
The Eichelgarten Geopark offers geological information on several topics: the effects of the Ice Ages on the Rupertiwinkel region, the structure and composition of rocks, and the formation of the Alps and the processes behind it. All exhibits were found within the Teisendorf market area. Here, geological context meets exhibits with local origins.
A Holy Cross Chapel in Holzhausen, a district of the municipality of Teisendorf, is first mentioned in 1424. Nearby, a show mine at the Eisenreich Achthal Mining Museum presents the working methods and everyday life of miners in earlier times, including their hardships and dangers. While the chapel’s first mention links to a local district and an early date, this attraction focuses on working and living in the mining industry.
Maypole tradition
Every year, maypoles are erected in Teisendorf around May 1. The celebrations include brass band music, a snack, beer and convivial gatherings. If you would like to plan your trip around this custom, check the specific dates in advance. The maypole tradition offers a different seasonal marker from the guided hikes available from July to September: here, the focus is on the period around May 1.
