Discover Anger: Technology, Churches and Lakeside Walks
Accommodation in Anger
In Anger, you can plan your trip around a range of interests: technology and toys at the Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk, historic churches and a walk around Höglwörther See each offer something different. Your stay can include collections and architectural history as well as a walk outdoors.
Model Railways and Historic Toys
The Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk in Anger invites you to experience technology, design and tradition. Its model railway layout covers 400 m². More than 200 trains travel through the landscapes depicted from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The layout’s size and number of trains convey two different aspects: it features landscapes from three countries while bringing numerous trains to life. It also houses a historic tin toy collection with more than 2,100 exhibits dating from 1860 to 1930. The collections have different focuses: one features model landscapes and trains, the other historic toys from several decades. The TraumWerk’s leisure park also includes an adventure playground and a miniature railway.
Churches and Historic Traces
The Romanesque hall church of St. George on Steinhögl was built in the mid-14th century on the site of a castle chapel. Its construction used ashlar stones from Roman or medieval building remains. The church thus brings together its architectural style, the former site of a castle chapel and the reuse of older stones.
A different historical story is associated with the Vachenlueg pilgrimage chapel. After the roof structure collapsed in 1824, the shrine containing the miraculous image remained undamaged; pilgrimages to Vachenlueg then increased. The chapel was completed in 1848. The two dates place the reported sequence in context: the collapse and the miraculous image’s survival came before the chapel was completed.
A Walk Around Höglwörther See
The circular trail around Höglwörther See is flat and wide, making it suitable for a walk with a pushchair. For planning your day, you can allow about half an hour. This gives you a clear idea of how much time to set aside without treating the approximate duration as a fixed walking time.
The Wider Destination: Berchtesgadener Land
Beyond Anger, the wider destination of Berchtesgadener Land extends through southeastern Upper Bavaria, from the gently rolling Rupertiwinkel in the north to Berchtesgaden National Park on the border with Austria. In the south, it includes high-alpine mountain landscapes and the natural scenery around Königssee. The national park has a network of 260 km of hiking trails and alpine paths. In Almbachklamm, the hike crosses 29 bridges and footbridges, climbs 320 steps and passes through a tunnel blasted into the rock. Its seasonal opening times and weather-related closures may change; check current conditions before visiting.
Another way to experience the landscape is the panoramic trail around Haus der Berge. Materials and plants bring the four habitats—water, forest, alpine pasture and rock—to life, while the trail also offers views of Watzmann, Hochkalter and Jenner. These examples reflect different regional interests: an extensive network of hiking trails and alpine paths, a gorge hike with many steps and bridges, and a panoramic trail focused on habitats and mountain views.
