Büchlberg: Views, Cycling Routes and Nature
Accommodation in Büchlberg
Büchlberg offers several focal points when choosing a destination: views and scenery, cycling and outdoor activities, as well as culture. A distinctive landmark is the observation tower; the town also has named cycling routes, a bike park and the Bergholz motor skills park. Büchlberg is 15 km north of the three-river city of Passau and can be reached via the B12.
Views and scenery
From the 25 m-high platform of the Büchlberg observation tower, the 360-degree panoramic view reaches south to the Alps and the Dachstein massif, and north to the main peaks of the Bavarian Forest. These include Rachel, Lusen and Dreisessel. The tower is on the “Büchlberger acht” hiking trail.
While the tower draws your gaze into the distance, the former quarry reveals a different aspect of the landscape: today, there is a deep lake there. The old quarry in Büchlberg is designated a landscape conservation area and is intended to be preserved as an extensive natural monument. Büchlberg’s distinctive features thus include both a panorama and a landscape shaped by former quarrying.
Cycling and outdoor activities
The cycling options offered by the municipality of Büchlberg include the Büchlberg Mill Cycling Route, the Chapel Cycling Route, “Around Büchlberg,” the Denkhof mountain bike loop and the Lichtenauer mountain bike loop. The list includes named cycling routes as well as two routes specifically designated as mountain bike loops. If cycling is a focus of your stay, you can use these names to plan your own outings.
The bike park in Büchlberg covers approximately 2,000 m² and offers tables, kickers and a pump track for practising, trying things out and watching. Alongside the named routes, it therefore provides specific features for different ways of enjoying cycling.
The Bergholz motor skills park can be reached via the municipal garden behind the town hall. The route follows Carl-Kerber-Straße to the turning area, and from there to the entrance to Bergholz. This route description gives you a specific landmark to help you find your way to the park.
Büchlberg offers free e-bike rental for holidaymakers and local residents. It is best to confirm availability before your trip. This lets you include the offer in your plans without confusing it with the named cycling routes or the bike park.
Culture in Büchlberg
The Erlau-Stub’n at the Büchlberg Museum of Musical Life can be used as a stage for musicians and singers. The events programme may vary; if you would like to plan your trip around a performance, check the event dates. This cultural venue complements the town’s scenic and activity-focused attractions. In the wider Passau destination, you can visit more than 100 residential and farm buildings dating from 1580 to 1890 at the Bavarian Forest Museum Village in Tittling.
