If you are looking for a hotel in Ruderting, the interests you have for your stay can help you get started. Local highlights include chapel routes, paths with different features, a landscape pond and traces of local heritage. These differences can help you set your priorities; check each hotel’s location, amenities, price and availability directly in its listing.

Paths between chapels, the Ilz and art

The four KapellenRadWanderRunden (chapel cycling and hiking routes) take locals and visitors from chapel to chapel through the landscapes of the municipalities of Ruderting and Tiefenbach. They can be cycled individually, linked together or explored on foot. The Rudertinger GeHschichtenweg has a different route focus: it runs along the banks of the Ilz, parallel to the southernmost Goldsteig stage to Passau. The Kunstweg Ruderting is suitable for strollers. The routes therefore differ in terms of how you can travel and their named features: chapel-to-chapel routes for the four circuits, the Ilz riverbank setting for the GeHschichtenweg and stroller accessibility for the Kunstweg.

The landscape pond and its green space

At the landscape pond in Ruderting, there is a green space with numerous trees, bushes and shrubs that invites you to stroll and linger. A natural Kneipp pool and an adventure playground for children are also located near the pond. As a place in its own right, separate from the routes, the pond is especially worth considering if you would like to combine a walk with time to linger.

Wayside and field crosses in Ruderting

There are around 20 wayside and field crosses in the municipality of Ruderting; most were restored during land consolidation in the early 1990s. The largest and best-known cross in Ruderting has stood in the village center since 1935. These crosses offer a glimpse of local history through both their approximate number and a specific date associated with the village center.

Culture in the wider Passau destination

In the wider Passau destination, the Bavarian Forest Museum Village is located in Tittling and is one of Europe’s largest open-air museums. Visitors can explore more than 100 residential and farm buildings from the Bavarian Forest, dating from 1580 to 1890, across 20 hectares. The museum village includes farmsteads, mills, sawmills, smithies, chapels and field monuments, as well as Germany’s oldest elementary school, dating from 1666. With its area, number of buildings and historical span, the museum offers a cultural history focus distinct from Ruderting’s local paths and crosses.

The Passau region is also shaped by rivers, forests and thermal baths. Well-known thermal springs are located in Bad Füssing and Bad Griesbach. Ortenburg’s castle culture is also part of the wider Passau destination: from April to December, the event series organized by the Friends of Ortenburg Castle includes musical events, cabaret performances, spooky nights at Ortenburg Castle, talks and guided visits. Check the individual dates by season if you would like to include this program.
