Seelfingen is picturesquely situated on the MahlspĂĽrer Aach. Together with MahlspĂĽren im Tal, it forms a single political municipality; both districts are well suited to active and family farm holidays, with their networks of cycling and hiking trails. In Seelfingen, this connection to the landscape is complemented by a remarkable architectural history.

St. Agatha Chapel and Haus Kiefer

St. Agatha Chapel is dedicated to Saint Agatha and was first mentioned in 1324. Formerly a parish church, it was extensively remodelled around 1730 or possibly rebuilt entirely. Its historic features include an 18th-century wooden coffered ceiling and furnishings dating predominantly from the middle of that century. The first written mention therefore dates back considerably further than the period of the extensive remodelling.

Another highlight of the town’s history is Haus Kiefer, a half-timbered house dating from 1730. It is considered one of the most beautiful half-timbered houses in the former district. The year 1730 links the two buildings chronologically: it is the year Haus Kiefer was built, while the former parish church was remodelled or possibly rebuilt around that time. When planning your trip, you can distinguish between ecclesiastical architectural history and half-timbered architecture.

Stockach: Museum and City Garden

The Stockach Municipal Museum preserves more than 3,000 objects relating to art, culture and local history. A particular focus is the Zizenhausen figurines: with more than 650 figurines and over 1,200 moulds, the museum has the world’s largest collection of these widely distributed figures. This well-defined collection theme is complemented by the museum’s broader holdings. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday and on public holidays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is closed on Mondays. Check the opening hours before your visit.

Located in the heart of Stockach, the City Garden offers a different kind of experience. In summer, its Mediterranean planting invites you to linger and enjoy a short stroll. For family outings, there is a large playground with a variety of play equipment, plenty of room to run around and picnic areas.

Trails and landscape in Stockach

The 1000 Quellenweg leads to the sources of the Stockacher Aach, which flows into Lake Constance. The trail’s scenery includes cool spring-fed streams, green spring marshes, deep ravines and lively brooks. Bus route 100 between Stockach and Mühlingen stops right at the trailhead; check the service before setting out.

Another hiking option is the easy circular trail to the Stockach Heidenhöhlen. It is 9.82 kilometres long, leads to the sandstone caves above Stockach’s Zizenhausen district and follows part of the 1000 Quellenweg. This gives you different points of reference when choosing a route: the Quellenweg is described in terms of its spring landscapes, while the circular trail also has a stated length and difficulty level, and a destination featuring caves.
