Moos on Lake Constance’s Lower Lake: Trails, Nature and Festivals
Accommodation in Moos
Moos lies at the southwestern end of Lake Constance, on the Lower Lake, and is surrounded by extensive nature reserves. There are several themes to consider when choosing where to stay: trails around Moos, Weiler, Iznang and Bankholzen, the Moos lido, and events related to the Bülle onion and the water procession.
The landscape on the Lower Lake
Moos’s location on the Lower Lake gives it a clear geographical setting: the village lies at the southwestern end of Lake Constance. At the same time, the municipality is surrounded by extensive nature reserves. The landscape around the Schienerberg is largely designated as a nature or landscape conservation area. Forests, the lake, orchards and vegetable gardens are all part of the landscape there. Water, protected landscapes and areas shaped by agriculture therefore offer different aspects of the region to consider when planning your days.
Hiking around Moos
There are hiking opportunities around Moos, Weiler, Iznang and Bankholzen. One specific route is the Vordere Höri circular hike, which passes through all four districts of Moos. The route is about 13 km long and takes approximately three hours. This gives you two useful points of reference for planning your day: the approximate distance and the time needed for the hike. If hiking is a key part of your trip, you can plan this circular hike as a separate outing and consider the other trails as additional options.
Moos lido
The Moos lido, located within a nature reserve, makes a destination of its own to consider in your plans. Its facilities include a large sunbathing lawn, three children’s playgrounds, a kiosk, a dining room and a lakeside terrace. These amenities range from outdoor spaces and play areas to dining facilities. The lido can therefore be considered a separate point of interest alongside the hiking trails and cultural events.
Water procession and Bülle Festival
The Moos water procession was first held in 1926. Holidaymakers can take part aboard large accompanying boats. If this event is a key part of your travel plans, check the dates in advance.
The annual Bülle Festival alternates between Bankholzen, Iznang, Moos and Weiler. Local products are sold, with a focus on the Bülle onion. Dishes include Bülledünne, Büllesuppe and Büllebrot. The festival offers a different focus from the water procession: regional products and cuisine featuring the Bülle take centre stage. Check the date and the venue for that year before your visit.
Getting around and the Bodenseecard West
You can explore the area around Moos by bus, train and boat. Guests with a Bodenseecard West can use buses and trains in the district of Konstanz free of charge; the validity area also includes Stein am Rhein and Überlingen. The card also offers a 20 percent discount on scheduled Swiss boats between Schaffhausen and Konstanz. As card benefits and conditions may change, check them before travelling. This gives you an overview of both the available transport options and the card benefits listed here when planning your trip.
