Discover Ebhausen: History and Trails
Accommodation in Ebhausen
Ebhausen offers opportunities for culture- and nature-focused stays: historic landmarks, an exhibition on domestic life and trails with their own themes. When planning your visit, you can decide whether to focus on local history, a viewpoint, or a hiking and cycling route.
Church history and domestic life in the past
The tower of the Protestant church in Ebhausen was built around 1350. One of its four bells dates from between 1230 and 1250 and is considered the oldest bell in all of Württemberg that is still rung. This means the bell predates the construction of the tower—a remarkable contrast in dates at a single building.
The Widumhaus is also part of the town’s history. According to a description from 1666, it was the only one of the five Widum houses that once existed in Ebhausen still standing at the time. Widum houses provided the pastor with land and property. The term thus points to the historical connection between providing for the pastor and land ownership.
The permanent exhibition “Wohnen anno dazumal” (Domestic Life in Days Gone By) has been housed since late 2000 in the Old Schoolhouse on Schulstraße, built in 1840. It displays furniture, equipment, clothing and linen that were used in Ebhausen and the surrounding Upper Nagold Valley. If you are planning a visit, check the current visiting arrangements beforehand.
Trails linking local history and views
The Historical Circular Trail is in Ebershardt, a district of Ebhausen. It is ten kilometres long and passes 27 information panels. They depict life in Ebershardt from the 12th to the 20th century. The route therefore focuses on the district’s history over several centuries.
The Wenden Loop passes through the centre of Ebhausen, where there is a place to stop for refreshments. Information panels point out locations with historical significance. From the viewpoint on Goldberg, the distant view extends across the Black Forest heights towards the Hornisgrinde. A seating area with a table and a reclining lounger invite you to linger and picnic. Refreshment options and trail facilities may change; check the latest information before your visit.
The 4.7-kilometre Flößerweg is a hiking and cycling route between Ebhausen and Altensteig. Its starting point in Ebhausen is at the end of Zum Hau street. Information panels along the route cover topics including timber rafting, the Monhardter Bach nature habitat, fauna and flora, wet meadows beside the trail, and the waterworks. Alongside local history, the route also explores nature and water.
Landscape and themes along the trail
The 51-hectare Mindersbacher Tal is characterised by springs, streams and ponds. The Nagold and several tributaries shape its varied landscape. The topics featured along the Flößerweg range from timber rafting to nature habitats and water, giving the route a different focus from the Historical Circular Trail in Ebershardt.
The trail lengths can also be compared directly: the Flößerweg is 4.7 kilometres long, while the Historical Circular Trail in Ebershardt is ten kilometres long. Another difference is that one is a hiking and cycling route between Ebhausen and Altensteig, while the other is a historical circular trail in a district of Ebhausen. Both the theme and the stated distance can therefore help you plan your routes.
