Unterreichenbach: Rafting Museum, Hiking Trails and Hotels
Accommodation in Unterreichenbach
Unterreichenbach offers three different reasons to choose it as a place to stay: the town’s rafting history, hiking trails across the entire municipal area, and a signposted cycle route that passes by the town.
Rafting Museum and Local History
The Rafting Museum was established in 1999 in the basement of Tannberg School in Unterreichenbach. The exhibition focuses on rafting, which was once of great economic importance to the town. A detailed model of Unterreichenbach’s former railway station adds another tangible local feature to the museum visit. If you are interested in local history, the museum thus offers two distinct points of interest: its focus on rafting and the model of the former railway station. The museum opens by prior telephone appointment, so please arrange your visit by phone in advance.
Talhuben Festival and Rafting Tradition
The Talhuben Festival also celebrates the rafting tradition. It began on May 27–28, 1978, as a new tradition to commemorate the town’s rafting heritage, which dates back well over 600 years. At the festival, Unterreichenbach’s Talhuben raftsmen demonstrate trips on an original raft more than 100 meters long. This gives you two different ways to encounter the same historical subject: as the focus of the museum exhibition and through demonstration trips at the festival. If you would like to visit during the festival, check the dates for your preferred year before travelling.
Hiking and Cycling
The hiking trail network covers the entire municipal area and extends into the adjacent “Kleb” nature reserve, which has a forest discovery trail. When planning your route, you can choose between the extensive trail network and a specific destination within the reserve. If you would like to include Kleb, you can use the forest discovery trail as a destination in its own right.
One specific hike is titled “Unterreichenbach, through Kleb Forest to Hohe Warte.” It is accessible by bus and train, and the starting point is about 300 m from the railway station. If you plan this hike, check the timetables for your travel date. The approximate distance from the station gives you a specific reference point for your journey.
For cyclists, the signposted Nagold Valley Cycle Route passes by Unterreichenbach. As signage and conditions may change, check current route information before setting out.
More to Explore in the Broader Calw Destination
The broader Calw destination offers other distinctive points of interest. In Nagold, the foundations of various buildings in the core of Hohennagold Castle, dating from the 12th century, are still preserved in the castle ruins on Schlossberg hill. In Schömberg, the barefoot park features a trail about 800 meters long with more than 20 different materials; before travelling, check whether the park is open for the season on your planned date. In Haiterbach, the nature discovery trail provides children with an age-appropriate introduction to trees and their leaves, as well as the geology of the quarry. At the animal long-jump activity, visitors can compare the jumping power of different animals.
