Discover Flayosc: Trails and Local History
Accommodation in Flayosc
The trails and landmarks offer different ways to plan your stay.
On foot: walks and hiking trails
In Flayosc, the “Au fil de l’eau” walk follows the course of the irrigation canal through the village. It takes about 40 minutes on foot. This is an approximate duration; check the local signs before setting off. This gives you a guide to how long the walk may take, which you can factor into your day’s plans.
“Au fil du patrimoine” focuses on something different: while “Au fil de l’eau” follows the canal, the name of the second route points to the heritage. “Au fil du patrimoine” can be explored on foot or by bicycle. The walks therefore focus on two different themes: the waterway and the heritage.
In addition, Flayosc’s signposted hiking network comprises seven varied trails covering a total of 61 km; the trails are maintained. The 61 km refers to the total length of the network, while an approximate walking time is given for the canal walk. This information helps you distinguish between two different planning questions: how much time you want to allow for a single walk, and how large the full signposted trail network is.
Church, gates and traces of history
Flayosc grew up around the Eglise Saint-Laurent, which is known for its campanile, or bell tower. Part of the medieval castrum has been preserved in the side aisle of the present-day church. The building thus brings together the history of the town’s origins and a tangible remnant from the Middle Ages.
Three gates are still visible in Flayosc: the Porte Dorée, the Porte de Paris and the Porte de la Reinesse. The Oppidum du Castellard offers another historical perspective, as an important testament to life in the Iron Age. In chronological terms, the oppidum represents the Iron Age and the castrum the Middle Ages; the church and gates add other named local landmarks to this picture.
Cycling and connections to Draguignan
There are two different reference points for cycling. The “Au fil du patrimoine” walk is accessible on foot and by bicycle. Flayosc is also a stop on the “La Méditerranée à vélo” tourist route. A local walk and a stop on the tourist route offer different frameworks for planning your trip. As route details can change, check the latest route information before setting off.
TedBus line 6 offers several return trips between Flayosc and Draguignan on weekdays. If you plan to use this connection, check the current timetable before travelling; transport information can change.
