Cogolin brings together medieval traces, traditional crafts, Provençal markets and activities on the water. When choosing a hotel in Cogolin, consider which aspects of the town you’d like to shape your stay: the history of the old village, a look at local skills, or time at the beach and on the water.

History and culture in Cogolin

The old village has medieval origins. Historic traces and remains are visible in its lanes and buildings. Among its notable landmarks is the Tour de l’Horloge: dating from the late 13th to early 14th century, it was once one of the village entrances. Here, the townscape reveals both older structures and a specific part of the history of its fortifications and access routes.

Contemporary cultural offerings are also part of Cogolin’s character. Le Château houses the Micro-Folie digital museum. La Chapelle regularly hosts concerts and art exhibitions; the programme may vary. The Fête du Coq is another public cultural event in Cogolin. The esplanade at La Chapelle offers 180-degree views across the Gulf. Cogolin Beach also commands wide views over the Gulf of Saint-Tropez—a different perspective from the panorama seen from the esplanade.

Crafts and markets

Several traditional crafts are closely associated with Cogolin. The Courrieu pipe factory, founded in 1850, is still operating in the town. The Manufacture des tapis de Cogolin makes high-quality, bespoke rugs entirely by hand. These are examples of two different types of production: pipe-making and handcrafted, made-to-measure rugs.

Guided tours of the Fabrique des Anches Rigotti explain the various steps involved in making reeds for wind instruments. Booking arrangements and seasonal availability may change; check them before planning a visit. This offers a different kind of insight into local craftsmanship from visits that focus on the manufacturing process itself.

The Provençal markets take place year-round on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. They offer handcrafted products such as honey, truffles, truffle oil, lavender and thyme. Those looking to discover regional produce will find a different side of the town here than in its workshops. Market hours may change; check them when planning your visit.

Beach, watersports and trails

Cogolin Beach is 400 metres long, sandy and offers wide views over the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. The municipal nautical centre offers stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), kayaking, Optimist sailing, dinghy sailing and catamaran sailing with qualified instructors. The range spans everything from paddling to different types of sailing. Which activity you choose to focus on depends on whether you prefer getting around with a paddle or are interested in sailing boats.

There’s also a connection between places on foot: the Sentier de Cogolin à Grimaud par la Réparade hiking trail connects Cogolin and Grimaud via La Réparade. The Cogolin Tourist Office provides visitor information and has a shop selling local products and regional crafts.
