La Roquebrussanne combines historic buildings with hiking trails through forests and limestone formations. The two routes differ considerably in distance, duration and difficulty.

Hiking: a short stroll or a longer loop

The “À la découverte du village provençal” route is an easy 2.6-kilometre stroll that takes one hour. For a longer option, there is the moderately difficult “Des Molières vers les Orris” circular hike: it is 10.1 kilometres long and is listed as taking three and a half hours. This lets you choose between a shorter, easy village stroll and a longer loop of moderate difficulty.

The “Des Molières vers les Orris” route passes through pine forests and holm oak woods, and by ruiniform limestone formations. The landscape is an integral part of this hike. Another natural and cultural point of interest is the Source des Orris: this former site of pastoral and agricultural activity includes an old rock shelter, a basin, a gravity-fed irrigation system and a small cave in tufa. The Source des Orris is a protected site and an LPO nature reserve, suitable for walks and birdwatching.

Another striking landform is the Grand Laoucien. It is a natural sinkhole about 130 metres in diameter and 43 metres deep. These specific measurements give you an idea of the scale of this geological feature, without equating it with a hiking distance.

Buildings and local history

The Tour de l’horloge is a clock tower dating from 1616 and protected as a historic monument. Its distinctive features include an exceptional bell tower. The Chapelle Saint-Louis was built in 1691. It houses a bell cast in 1694 and decorated with a cross, as well as a wooden statue of Saint Louis dating from the 17th to 18th century.

The history of the Église de la Transfiguration begins with a decision made in 1340: at the residents’ request, the Archbishop of Aix decided to have the church built. The building known in the village as the “castle” is a fortified manor house acquired by the prior of La Celle Abbey in 1335. These different dates point to distinct chapters in local history and buildings with their own individual significance.

The network of oratories also connects religious sites and paths. It includes eight Stations of the Cross leading to the Chapelle Notre-Dame d’Inspiration, three to the Chapelle Saint-Louis and one to the presumed Chapelle Sainte-Madeleine. The stations serve as points along a procession route; the attribution to the Chapelle Sainte-Madeleine is explicitly a presumption.

The Ponts de la Latte consist of six bridges crossing the river as far as the former oil mill site. Today, some of them are open to the public, while others remain private. Check access locally before planning a visit.

More leisure activities and getting around

Wine and spirit tastings are offered at Domaine Baussanne. Visitors can also tour the wine cellar and the press house, and explore the estate’s landscapes on walks. Alongside hiking and historic buildings, the estate offers experiences related to wine and its landscape.

The Pumptrack de La Roquebrussanne has a riding surface of about 600 square metres. Its surroundings are partly peri-urban and partly green, making it suitable for recreation and leisure activities. For public transport directions: the Croisement de Néoules stop is served by ZOU! route 4802 between Saint-Maximin and Toulon. Check the timetable for your specific journey.
