Compare hikes and walks

When choosing a stay in Meounes-Les-Montrieux, you can compare trails by length, duration, and stated difficulty level. The Autour de la Vierge route is a very easy 4.1-kilometre circular trail with a stated duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It alternates between village streets and forest paths and takes in Méounes’ heritage. Seasonal access restrictions in the forest may apply; check before setting out.

The Circuit botanique is an easy 2.7-kilometre walk, with an estimated duration of about 1 hour and 15 minutes. It starts and ends at the church square. The Sentiers de Peyferrier et Maupas is also designated as an easy walking trail: it is 5 kilometres long, takes 2 hours, and starts and ends at the Forum car park. This gives you a choice of two shorter, easy options with different distances and time estimates.

A longer hike, Le GaragaĂŻ du Signoret, is listed as 12 kilometres and four hours; its difficulty level is moderate. Its starting and ending point is also the Forum car park. The details on length, duration, and difficulty help distinguish this hike from the easier walks without treating the different routes as equivalent.

Heritage and local history

The Église de Saint-Eutrope dates from the 16th century; construction began in 1540. Another historic landmark is the Fontaine des quatre saisons, which is listed as a Monument historique. Four masks representing the seasons pour water into a basin. The fountain’s figures explain its name and also make it a clear example of the connection between design and function.

The Chartreuse de Montrieux in Méounes was built in 1137. As of August 2026, only the reception building and a small chapel are open to the public. The Chartreuse de Montrieux-le-Vieux is a different site: its chapel was classified as a Monument historique by decree of 25 February 1980. The remains of the former abbey were listed by the same decree; the part already classified is excluded. This helps distinguish the two similarly named sites and their respective historical details.

La Vierge du Château is also among Méounes’ named cultural sites. The statue stands on the summit of the former medieval village. The current statue was installed in 1997. It is therefore important to distinguish the historic site from the statue erected later.

Landscape and practical information

The Lône runs through Méounes and powered oil, flour, and sumac mills there for several centuries. This use connects the river with the history of local work. The Morières-Montrieux forest covers 2,273 hectares and has a rich natural heritage. Along with the changing sections of the Autour de la Vierge route, these landscape and history themes complement the choices of walks, longer hikes, and historic landmarks.

For bus travel, route 849 between Saint-Maximin and Toulon serves the Méounes Centre stop. As schedules and routes may change, check current services before travelling. If you want to plan your days around specific trails, the stated start and end points and the different time estimates offer practical guidance. Be sure to separately account for the seasonal forest access restrictions on the Autour de la Vierge route.
