Entrecasteaux offers several different reasons to stay: historic buildings, a château garden, walking routes, a weekly market and local produce. If you are looking for a hotel for your trip, you can start by considering which of these aspects of the town interests you most. The sights and activities range from architectural history and garden design to hikes, a riding route and offerings related to wine, honey and olive oil.

Château, Garden and Historic Buildings

The Château d'Entrecasteaux is partially protected as a Monument historique. The château includes the Jardin du Château d'Entrecasteaux, a French garden inspired by drawings by Le Nôtre. The public garden can be visited free of charge and independently; dogs are not permitted. As access conditions may change, it is advisable to check them again before your visit.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-l'Aube also offers a distinctive historical feature: the chapel dates from the 12th century and is classified as a Monument historique. The classification was registered on 25 March 1980. Another architectural feature is the ice house near the Château d'Entrecasteaux. This rare, round building served as a refrigerator for the château's owners and their guests. Together, the château, garden, chapel and ice house offer different insights into the town's architectural history and how its buildings were used.

Walking Routes and Riding Circuit

The circular routes starting in Entrecasteaux vary in activity, length and stated difficulty. Les colles is an easy 4.7-kilometre circular walking route. Le Défens de Valpeironne is also a circular walking route, but at seven kilometres it is longer and rated moderate. This makes it possible to compare two different walking routes by length and stated difficulty.

La ronde des châteaux offers a different activity: this 48-kilometre circular riding route starts in Entrecasteaux and is rated easy. It is considerably longer than the two walking routes, but is intended for a different kind of outing. All three descriptions refer to circular routes starting in Entrecasteaux; when comparing them, consider both the distance and the activity. The routes are not equivalent simply because of their length.

Market and Local Produce

The market in Entrecasteaux takes place every Friday throughout the year. If you would like to include a market visit in your trip, you can use Friday as a guide when planning. The weekly schedule provides a practical reference alongside the historic sights and routes.

Wine is at the heart of Château du Grand Jas: at the estate, the winemaker offers guided tastings of AOP Côtes de Provence rosé and white wines in French and English. The family-run estate has been in existence since 1896. As visitor arrangements and opening hours may change, you should check the current conditions before visiting.

The Miellerie des Moulières in Entrecasteaux produces honey and pollen and offers visits, tastings and direct sales. There, you can discover the products as well as find options for visiting and buying. The Coopérative Oléïcole La Solidarité in Entrecasteaux produces and sells olive oil. Unlike the Miellerie, production and sales are the relevant points of interest at the cooperative; tastings and visits are not among the offers listed.

When choosing a destination, you can weigh these themes against one another: the château garden and architectural history, a walking route or the long riding circuit, the Friday market or local produce.
