Saint-Antonin-Du-Var: Wine, Trails and Church History
Accommodation in Saint-Antonin-Du-Var
Discover Saint-Antonin-Du-Var through a variety of themes: wine tours and tastings, trails through wooded hills, the history of a church and seasonal Mediterranean cuisine. When planning your stay, you can prioritise these highlights according to whether wine knowledge, outdoor activity, architecture or food matters most to you.
Wine tours and tastings
Domaine du Clos d’Alari offers a comprehensive tour of its vineyards and cellars, followed by a tasting. The walk takes you through 24 vineyard plots and among eight grape varieties. The commentary covers the climate, grape varieties and soil, as well as the work in the vineyard and with the land throughout the year. The tour thus links individual growing areas with the themes that shape winegrowing over the course of the year.
By appointment, Domaine du Clos d’Alari also offers in-depth half-day visits that include an introduction to oenology. Staying at its guesthouse is not required. The half-day gives the wine experience a dedicated time slot; making an appointment is part of this visit offer.
Domaine des Sarrins welcomes visitors to its tasting cellar and recommends booking an appointment in advance. The estate covers around 100 hectares of pine and oak woodland, as well as olive groves in hilly terrain. Individual vineyard plots add to the surroundings. A walk through the estate takes you around wooded hills and offers views of areas shaped by vineyards. This lets you consider the landscape alongside the tasting and tour options.
Another specific hiking option is the Saint-Antonin-du-Var – Le Collet du Suis route. Its forest path runs parallel to a vineyard. This distinguishes the route description from the walk at Domaine des Sarrins, which goes around wooded hills and offers views of areas shaped by winegrowing.
Château Mentone is located in Saint-Antonin-du-Var and offers wine tourism. Its estate covers 170 hectares of natural land. This adds another named winegrowing landmark to the municipality’s wine-related offerings.
Church and local history
The Church of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption is mentioned in records as early as 1038 and has been restored several times. The year marks its early mention in the records; the repeated restorations are another part of its history.
The façade also features specific details: it has three broad arched openings, each containing three round arches. These rest on slender columns with figuratively decorated capitals. A capital is the decorated upper part of a column; the figures give the arcades an additional architectural detail. If you are interested in architectural forms, you can look at both the sequence of arches and the design of the column capitals on the façade.
Seasonal cuisine
La Table de Mentone serves seasonal Mediterranean cuisine made with produce from the estate and from carefully selected local producers. The Sunday menu includes meat and fish roasted over a wood fire. The cuisine therefore highlights both its seasonal focus and the stated sources of its produce, as well as a specific cooking method. When planning, you can distinguish the Sunday focus of the menu from the general description of the seasonal cuisine.
