La Cadière-D'azur – Village History, Nature and Wine
Accommodation in La Cadière-D'azur
La Cadière-D'azur is a Provençal hilltop village that has preserved its authentic character. When deciding where to stay, it is worth exploring the different aspects of the village: local history, Mediterranean nature and wine each appeal to different interests. If you are looking for a hotel, the following themes can help you choose a destination that suits your preferences. These experiences complement one another, but each has its own character.
Local History at the Old Gates
The fortifications give the village’s history specific names and dates. The Porte Mazarine was opened in the fortifications of La Cadière-D'azur in 1657. The Porte de Saint-Jean is a gate in the fortifications that leads to the church; the Porte de La Colle is one of the old gates. These offer different historical reference points: a dated opening, a gate’s connection to the church, and the designation of another gate as old.
Botanical Trail, Views and Chapel
The Sentier Forestier et Botanique combines information about nature with panoramic views over the Bay of Saint-Cyr-les-Lecques. Information panels along the trail teach visitors about Mediterranean flora. The 17th-century Sainte Croix Chapel is also part of the trail, adding a historical dimension to the plants and views. Plants, landscape and cultural heritage are therefore distinct elements of the same trail. Seasonal access restrictions may apply to the Massif. Check access conditions before visiting.
Exhibitions and Wine Aromas
In the center of La Cadière-D'azur, the Maison du Terroir et du Patrimoine is housed in a restored 16th-century chapel. Its permanent exhibitions focus on the geological and archaeological heritage of the area. Temporary exhibitions featuring photographs and paintings are also held regularly. Permanent exhibition themes are thus presented alongside changing artistic displays. During visiting hours, the Maison also offers a playful, olfactory tour exploring the aromas of Bandol wines. Here, the focus is on experiencing aromas, while the exhibitions explore geological, archaeological and artistic themes.
Guided Tours at Domaine de La Bégude
At Domaine de La Bégude, a different approach to wine takes center stage: the estate offers guided tours of its wine cellar and historic buildings. Unlike the Maison’s olfactory tour, these tours focus on the cellar and buildings. The experiences are therefore clearly distinct: the Maison offers a playful tour of wine aromas, while Domaine de La Bégude offers guided visits to its wine cellar and historic buildings.
Different Aspects to Help You Decide
You can therefore think of La Cadière-D'azur in terms of its nature and landscapes, or its cultural and wine-related offerings. These differences give you a concrete starting point for deciding whether the village suits your travel interests.
