Le Flayosquet is one of Draguignan’s historic hamlets. The heritage and cycling routes are the main features that shape the way visitors see the area when choosing a destination: Sainte-Marie du Flayosquet combines an early construction history, dated only approximately, with archaeological finds; the Moulin du Flayosquet represents the history of an oil mill. This lets you decide whether to focus your stay more on the history of churches and excavations, mill technology or a cycling route.

Historic buildings and archaeological traces

Sainte-Marie du Flayosquet stands in the hollow of the Florièye, on the slope of a small tuff hill. The first building is dated to the beginning of the 9th century; the 8th century is also possible. This cautious dating is important: the early origins have an open date range, rather than a firmly established year of construction.

Excavations in the central and eastern parts of the nave uncovered seven graves with triangular cross-sections and brick coffin surrounds. These specific finds add to the question of the age of the first building: the historical picture includes both early construction history and archaeologically documented burial sites.

Mill and exhibitions

The Moulin du Flayosquet, also known as Le Bastidon, is a 13th-century oil mill. On a guided tour, you can see the seven-metre-diameter waterwheel; the tour ends with a tasting of regional products in the mill shop. This visit therefore combines a specifically named technical feature with regional produce. If the tour is important to your stay, check in advance whether it is available on your chosen date.

The Chapelle du Flayosquet also hosts exhibitions from time to time. Visiting arrangements for the period from 1 January to 31 December depend on the exhibitions. Plan your visit accordingly and check in advance whether a visit is possible on your chosen date.

Cycling routes and route profile

The Les balcons du Haut-Var – Circuit 6 loop reaches Le Flayosquet, passes through the hamlet with its Roman necropolis, and then heads uphill along the D57 and D49 towards Ampus. Check the road conditions before setting out. This lets you take into account both the loop’s connection to the area’s heritage and the climb that follows when planning your ride.

The east–west section of La Méditerranée à vélo has a different route feature: it includes several long climbs of 10 to 15 percent. Cyclists carrying luggage often have to push their bikes on these climbs. The two route descriptions therefore offer different guidance for planning a day of cycling: Circuit 6 specifies the route through Le Flayosquet and onward towards Ampus, while the information about La Méditerranée à vélo gives more detail about the climbing demands of the east–west section.

The sights and routes offer concrete points of reference for choosing between cultural and cycling interests. The church combines a possible early medieval date with archaeological finds; the mill offers a distinct focus on historic technology and a guided tour with a tasting. For the Chapelle, the exhibition schedule is key to planning a visit. For the routes, the specified itinerary and gradient information help you tailor your cycling plans to each section.
