Skiing and trails through the mountain landscape
There are several starting points for skiing in Vars les Claux; the village stretches along the D902 towards Col de Vars. The snow fronts at Les Claux also provide starting points for hiking and snowshoeing trails, including routes towards Col de Vars. This lets you distinguish between starting points for skiing and those for setting out on foot or on snowshoes when planning your day.
A specific ski touring route also starts in Vars les Claux: “La Trace de Sibières” is rated difficult, is 2.2 kilometres long, and gains 325 metres in elevation. Its availability may vary depending on weather and avalanche conditions. If you plan to take this route, factor this dependency into your decision.
Hiking and orienteering
The “Le sentier de la reine” interpretive trail uses information panels to introduce the history, geology, and pastoralism of Vars. The “Sentier des heureux” hiking trail has a different starting point: it leads from the top of the La Mayt chairlift towards Vars les Claux.

Two mountain bike routes also start in Vars les Claux. “All around Vars” begins there, and the technical “Lumberjack” route also starts in the village and is intended for experienced riders. Both therefore start in the same village; for “Lumberjack,” its technical nature and suitability for experienced riders also offer specific guidance when choosing a route.
The Caribou toboggan run is located in the heart of the ski area. It is 1,027 metres long and has a vertical drop of 123 metres: the first figure is the route’s length, and the second is the elevation difference.
