Brignoles offers different ways to explore history and the landscape: you can wander through older streets, discover notable buildings or choose cycling routes through a variety of landscapes. When planning, it is also worth checking the conditions of individual routes and their current opening status.

Heritage in the Centre and its Streets

Brignoles town centre has been designated a Site Patrimonial Remarquable since 20 June 2020. The designation is based on a ministerial decree dated 15 June 2020. One notable landmark in the town’s architectural history is the Palais des Comtes de Provence: originally designed as a defensive structure, it was converted into a count’s residence from the mid-13th century onwards. These two phases offer a tangible insight into the building’s changing function.

The streets also preserve architectural traces from different periods. The historic centre has older streets with steps and vaulted passages, complemented by gates and doorways dating from the 13th and 14th centuries. A walk through the old streets is a good opportunity to notice these details. At the entrances to the town, bilingual signs in Provençal and French are another visible expression of local language and culture.

A Bell, Dolmens and a Museum

The Chapelle Notre-Dame d’Espérance has a bronze bell and an iron bell, both dating from 1556. Both were designated as Monuments historiques in 1982. To get there, walk from the Sant Sumian car park along a steep path; access is not suitable for people with reduced mobility. Check the current opening conditions before your visit.

Several dolmens north of the Carami Valley form a Neolithic funerary landscape. The path there is very steep; hiking boots or walking shoes are recommended. This makes the dolmens quite different from a stroll through the older town streets: take the incline into account when planning your trip and wear the recommended footwear.

The sarcophagus of La Gayolle is among the highlights of the Musée des Comtes de Provence. On 22 August 2026, the museum was closed for renovation work. Check its current opening status before planning a visit so that you can take the closure and any updates into account.

Guided Visits, Market and Event

The Micro-Folie offers two types of visits: self-guided visits and guided visits in a conference format. This lets you choose between exploring on your own and a guided format, without implying that any other types of visits are available.

A market is held in the town centre every week. There, you can meet local producers and learn about their craftsmanship. Events are also part of the town’s cultural history: Les Médiévales de Brignoles held its 27th edition in 2026.

Cycling Routes Through Different Landscapes

The Vélo Vigne & Abbaye cycling route starts at the tourist office at Carrefour de l’Europe. The very easy route is 20.5 kilometres long and passes through the Vallon de Pourraque, the Val de Camps plain and vineyard landscapes. Check the latest route and safety information before setting off.

The Hameau des Censiés cycling loop is defined by its scenery: it passes through vineyards, woodland, olive groves and alongside small streams, with views of Montagne de la Loube. The two routes therefore offer different points of interest: the length and difficulty are specified for Vélo Vigne & Abbaye, while the description of the Hameau des Censiés loop highlights the landscape and views.

Another cycling route, Du train à la mine, leads from Brignoles along a former railway line to the Musée des Gueules Rouges in Tourves. The museum is in Tourves, not Brignoles. Alongside the routes through vineyard landscapes, this offers a clear distinction when choosing a route: a stated distance, a described landscape or a destination outside Brignoles.
